Job summary
Join the European Item Data Quality (IDQ) team to solve complex catalog quality problems using challenging machine learning and data analysis solutions. Be part of a key effort to improve our customers' experience by tackling and preventing data defects in Amazon's catalog at scale.

As a Software Development Manager, you will work with your team of highly skilled software engineers to invent, design, build and manage resilient and scalable data processing systems. You will work with your internal customers to balance customer requirements with team requirements and help your team and business evolve, by working with machine learning models and large data sets. You will be using the latest ML, AWS and industry technologies to improve data quality of the largest catalogue of products in the world.

To succeed in this role, you will ship complex software solutions through an agile methodology. You will dive deep to understand business and technical problems to help your team make the right technical decisions for the product and the business. You will develop the career of your reports and set a high bar for performance. You will use strong communication skills and manage through ambiguous situations.

For illustrative purposes, your scope could include systems such as: systems to extract information from product images at scale, systems to identify suspicious or incorrect data (e.g. counterfeits), systems to check the consistency of the information presented to the customers (e.g. image vs text consistency), or systems to validate internal product-related information that impact operations (e.g. product size and weight).

Key job responsibilities
* You independently manage a software development team owning cross-functional software. You hire the right mix of SDEs to accomplish team goals.
* You establish a roadmap and successfully deliver software that executes that vision; making short vs long-term decisions defining clear goals and objectives.
* You define metrics to measure team development progress, customer experience, and operational excellence.
* Your team has customer engagement mechanisms, adheres to SLAs, and effectively manages software operations.

A day in the life
Some common activities in the role are:
· Set up and run an Agile project management process, including meetings such as groomings, planning, retrospectives and demos.
· Engage with Stakeholders to review project status and identify and prioritize future features.
· Meet weekly, 1 on 1, with your direct reports and perform talent reviews.
· Meet regularly with other engineering teams world-wide to execute and align roadmaps.
· Set goals and define a long term vision for your team.

About the team
The Item Data Quality (IDQ) team is part of the International Technology group (InTech), which owns the enhancement and delivery of Amazon’s cutting-edge engineering to all the varied customers and cultures of the world. We are a diverse team of applied scientists and engineers, with the mission to ensure that our customers are presented with accurate product information throughout their shopping experience.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience managing engineers
· Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
· Relevant engineering experience
· Strong leadership, project planning and execution skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication; ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
· Experience with at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Java or C++.
· Experience with professional software engineering best practices such as Agile project management, coding standards, code reviews, source control.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master degree preferred.
· Experience with large scale distributed systems.
· Experience building solutions using Cloud technologies.
· Experience with ML infrastructure.
