The Role
Reporting into the Tech Cluster QA Lead, you will be responsible for supporting the quality efforts for our in-house tooling, cloud and build infrastructure, automation strategy, performance testing, and other technical elements that make up the foundation on which our extremely successful flagship title Star Trek - Fleet Command (STFC) is built upon.
As a key contributor to the culture of quality within Scopely, you will help shape the future on how we continue to iterate to success, and evolve the way we work.
Core Duties
- Engage and provide feedback as early as the brief / design stages via static testing, highlighting additional test tool / cheat needs, pre-production quality concerns, and similar things alike
- Generate clear and concise test plans, identifying scope of coverage, accurate estimates, and resourcing needs from conception through to release
- Drive the creation, maintenance and coverage of relevant suites and associated test cases, tailored to the Tech Clusters needs
- Liaise and coordinate with a team of offshore testers, defining and communicating expectations, while monitoring progress and results
- Lead by example through hands-on testing, owning and taking responsibility for the quality output of your pods work
- Leveraging both internal and central services, help drive and analyse performance data captures, monitoring trends and working with the team on where improvements can be made
- Drive the quality of internal tooling development, including those built for our Los Angeles based team
- Follow & assist with the governance surrounding the test strategy of our Server > Client Communications & Relationship, and target such tests through the use of Postman, Charles or similar tools alike
- Support the QA Automation movement within STFC, working closely with the Automation pod and central services, inline with the QA Leads automation strategy
- Adhere to and encourage Tech Cluster release train best practices, helping ensure a smooth transition from conception through to release
- Monitor and (where necessary) raise concern regarding the quality of key technical KPIs, (e.g. ANRs and Crash Rates) across all relevant platforms.
- Track and highlight the release of new software (e.g. OS releases), gaining early hands on insight and exposure to beta’s where plausible
- Review and (where necessary) align and train external test teams to conform to expected bug reporting standards, while helping maintain a tidy and prioritised backlog
- Keep the pod(s) and Cluster leadership team informed on milestone progression, priorities and blockers throughout the production lifecycle
- Attend associated Tech pod and QA team ceremonies, using these as a platform for feedback, while remaining current and informed on team strategy and movements
- Ensure the pods contributions are of the highest quality, both in terms of defect mitigation and useability experience
- Work closely with Customer Support & the Live & Release Cluster to investigate, document and (where necessary) push for swift resolution of server / backend Live issues, owning and understanding where potential gaps existed, and plugging these for future circumstances
- Support with the onboarding of external dedicated embedded test resource within your pod and / or Cluster
- Aligning with the Cluster QA Lead and QA Director, standardise processes with other pods and Clusters alike, providing feedback and suggestions to better these where applicable
- Engage in LUCI reviews to aid with yours and others development alike, providing feedback when called upon, including to that of your Leads
- Support the Cluster QA Lead in attaining the teams goals through ownership and tracking of KPOs / OKRs
- Assist in the promotion of a ‘shift left’ attitude, helping discover and resolve issues as early as possible within the production pipeline
- Work closely with the tech team to understand scope of change and the impact of work to other areas that may require quality control considerations
