We are looking for a Researcher in Applied Entomology in Intensive Crops to join the Sustainable Plant Protection Program team, based in Cabrils (Barcelona). We offer the opportunity to be part of an organization with a dynamic, collaborative work environment focused on professional development.

The selected candidate will join the Applied Entomology Research Group working on the assessment of sustainable pest control methods and on the development of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies in different open field and greenhouse intensive crops.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Proactively promote, contribute to, supervise and/or lead national and international research projects within the Applied Entomology research line, carrying out scientific and technical tasks related to ongoing activities and developing new research initiatives as well as securing funding.
• Participate in the planning, execution, and analysis of experiments and their subsequent reporting to ensure the achievement of milestones of the research projects.
• Contribute to the scientific production of the research and innovation activities of the Program.
• Update continuously with scientific knowledge to be positively transferred to stakeholders and end-users.
• Help positioning the Sustainable Plant Protection Program as a group of excellence through regular peer-reviewed publications, contributions at national and international congresses, and students’ supervision.
• Collaborate with teamwork and team-spirit in the Sustainable Plant Protection Program, fostering collaboration and integration activities with other teams of IRTA, as well as with external academic, institutional and industrial partners, in approaching new integrated control strategies for the management of pests in intensive crops.

Required qualifications and experience

• PhD in Agricultural Entomology or related disciplines.
• Proven experience in arthropod pests affecting intensive crops, with a special focus on their monitoring and management, and an outstanding record of scientific publications in this field.
• Proven experience in laboratory and field entomology, including the application of molecular techniques and classical biological approaches for insect research and monitoring.
• Knowledge of biological control.
• Proven research skills: literature review, data analysis, scientific article writing.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing knowledge transfer activities, fostering collaboration with industry stakeholders and promoting the uptake of research results.
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
• Strong teamwork skills, ability to adapt to multidisciplinary environments and a focus on professional growth and development.

Desirable requirements

• Capacity to prioritize tasks effectively and to anticipate, plan and write R+D projects, reports and technical documents.
• Capability and ability to learn and successfully work within multidisciplinary team as well as to establish and build relationships that will allow pursuing the objectives of the R&D activities.
• Proven experience in supervising students and PhD candidates.
• Willingness to organise and share information and proactive in suggesting improvements.
• Flexibility and adaptation.
• Driving licence.
• Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan is highly valued.
