The IREC Foundation seeks candidates with outstanding scientific and technological experience in the Institute's activities who can propose an exciting and dynamic program for the future of the institute, its leadership in the international energy sector, and its role in Catalonia.
The IREC director receives the support of the management area of the institute as well as from the Board of Trustees of the IREC Foundation.
Main responsibilities: Scientific & Technology & Management Promoting and facilitating leading-edge, including collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
Providing scientific & technological vision, strategic goals and leadership by devising a strategic plan and monitoring its implementation in agreement with the scientific advisory board and the board of Trustees.
Deploying interactions with authorities and programs searching that the institute to maintain a world class infrastructure and cutting-edge scientific core services including the availability of space and installations.
Enhancing and facilitating technology transfer to industry and fostering entrepreneurship Organise regular meetings of the IREC Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), conducting regular scientific evaluations of the institute and its groups and research and technology units and implementing the SAB recommendations in agreement with the Board of Trustees and availabilities.
Conducting periodic performance evaluation according to the professional career program if available including research, management, service and direction units.
Promote the preparation of the periodic institute evaluation performed by CERCA.
Promote the participation and interaction of the institute in Catalonia actions launched for the authorities of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
Deploying contracts with the administration for financial support of the institute's current expenses.
Launching and promoting strategic initiatives and programs in the field of energy as a leading institute in the energy field, ensuring the institute's presence in society and its outreach role.
Activating the institute's role as an agent to increase the level of social acceptance of energy research and its applications Key stakeholder relations with governing bodies and collaborating organizations Developing networks and strategic alliances and maximizing collaborations between IREC and relevant research institutions locally, nationally and internationally.
Capitalizing fully on the research strengths of partners within the CERCA networks, universities and other local, national and international institutions.
Implementing the Board of Trustees directives and reporting to its President and other members.
Participating in the CERCA activities.
Engaging the institute in the periodic CERCA evaluation, implementing its recommendations and keeping CERCA regularly informed about the institute actions and progress.
Leadership for the whole IREC community Facilitating merits-based career development.
Ensuring the delivery of high-quality research by recruiting and developing group leaders, core facility managers and senior administrative staff.
Monitoring compliance with obligations applied by the different institute units in relation to commitments on gender equality, transparency, complaints channels, anti-fraud and any other commitment derived from legislation.
Operational and financial management Ensuring efficient operational and financial management of all activities within the Institute performed by the administrative team and its Management Director.
Ensuring the highest integrity, transparency and compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Report and interact with the president of the Board of Trustees about the operational and financial situation of the institute and any incidents on it.
Leadership for the IREC development strategy Playing the representative role of the IREC before potential public or private collaborators Facilitating outreach activities for engaging knowledge of activities and functions of the institute before the society.
Promoting tools like a high quality and performant web page, newsletters and event organizations or presence in the media for increasing the institute activity acceptation by the society and authority recognition.
Launching and promoting the IREC alumni community.
Looking for private donors, establishing agreements with enterprises, associations and institutions that can support our collaboration and/or can bring support to the institute.
Any other function that might be approved by the Board of Trustees 3.-Candidate Profile Knowledge and experience required Outstanding scientific and/or technological international profile showing disruptive and relevant contributions in the field.
Justified experience in implementing science strategy, deploying research infrastructure, in leading research and management teams or launching research or infrastructure programs.
Knowledge of Catalan and Spanish scientific environment will be considered an significant added values.
Skills/Abilities/Capacities Very strong strategic vision for supervising future road maps of the institute activities.
Ability and capacity to lead actions before multiple public and private stakeholders.
Ability and capacity to be representative of IREC actions and activities in the media, institutions, associations, entities and scientific environment.
Excellent communication and engagement skills.
Integrity and "political" awareness.
Organization skills.
- -Terms and working conditions The Director will have a contract as senior scientist and Director, having the consideration of a senior position of the Generalitat de Catalunya in terms of transparency, incompatibilities and salary rates according to the regulations of the Public Sector of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and competences.
Specific conditions will be negotiated during the selection process.

- -Selection process The Board of trustees of IREC will create an "ad hoc" Commission involving four of its members, the I-CERCA director and one member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to provide a short list of the pre-selected candidates after the evaluation of the documents submitted.
The results of these interviews would be presented to the Board of trustees.
This will designate the new Director.
