Ground Segment Senior Systems Engineer. Hybrid

We are looking for a Ground Segment Senior Systems Engineer with experience in ground segment systems engineering, requirements management, system architecture, interface control documentation, integration, verification and validation activities for space systems to join projects focused on the design, development, integration, and technical management of space ground segment solutions for satellite, communications, and defense programs.

• Define, manage, and maintain system requirements, architecture, and interface control documentation for ground segment projects.

• Support the design and specification of ground segment systems and subsystems.

• Coordinate system integration, verification, and validation activities throughout the project lifecycle.

• Act as the technical interface with customers, translating operational needs into engineering solutions.

• Coordinate and monitor subcontractors and external partners, ensuring technical compliance and project alignment.

• Contribute to technical leadership activities within national and international space programs.

• Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

• Experience in the design and specification of ground segment systems and subsystems.

• Experience with requirements engineering, system architecture, and interface control documentation.

• Working knowledge of software development lifecycle tools, including Git, Jira, and Confluence, and ability to interpret UML diagrams and system models.

• Knowledge of space industry standards such as CCSDS, PUS, XTCE, and OGC, as well as ECSS regulations and SATCOM systems.

• High level of English.

WHAT CHALLENGE WILL YOU BE TAKING ON?

We're looking for candidates willing to join our ground segment architects team, which manages the design of ground segments for satellite navigation systems

This multidisciplinary group includes experienced aerospace, software, hardware and networks experts in charge of designing the ground assets architecture which support complex missions such as Galileo or LEO PNT. These European missions provide positioning and navigation services worldwide, by means of big satellite constellations controlled by the ground segments you would help to design.

This position is initially targeted to candidates with experience in the space sector, but contact us if you have relevant experience in the design of other security architectures from different technological domains.

You'll be responsible for:

• Definition of the security architecture of ground segments (control centres and interfaces with stations and other entities), cooperating actively with the other architects within the team (engineering, networks, hardware, software, key management, operations, etc.) and the security officer
• Generation and review of security documentation (Design, plans, technical notes...)
• Close collaboration with the cybersecurity team for the definition of the security model (e.g. operating systems choice, hardening activities, deviations, etc.)
• Liaison between between the cybersecurity team and other technical teams to ensure proper alignment
• Contribution to the processes definition, oriented to stablish security by design
• Identification of potential risks and system threats
• Provision of technical support to the segment teams and customers
• Interaction with client (ESA) and subcontractors (within Europe), including attendance to reviews, formal test milestones execution/supervision, etc.

The ideal candidate will be able to guide architectural decisions, interact directly with the client, and ensure that deployment, security and operational requirements are met throughout the project.

WHAT CHALLENGE WILL YOU BE TAKING ON?

The selected candidate will be responsible for technically leading the design, development and maintenance of the project’s Infrastructure as Code, ensuring end-to-end automation and reproducible deployments.

They will actively participate in client meetings, providing expert guidance and aligning architecture and operational decisions with functional, security and performance requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing the project’s IaC architecture across multi-cloud, hybrid or on-premise environments.
• Ensuring full automation of the infrastructure lifecycle, from provisioning to maintenance.
• Enforcing consistent DevOps practices: CI/CD, quality controls, automated testing, GitOps and integrated security.
• Leading the standardization, modularization and reuse of robust and scalable IaC components.
• Coordinating with development, operations, cybersecurity and networking teams to ensure seamless delivery.
  
  

• Expert-level Terraform (HCL) experience: modules, workspaces, state management, state security and CI/CD integration.
• Strong background in Ansible: roles, playbooks, dynamic inventories, collections, orchestration and performance optimization.
• Experience designing reproducible, immutable and modular infrastructures.
  
  

• Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps…).
• Knowledge of IaC testing tools (terratest, checkov, tflint, ansible-lint).
• Artifact management, semantic versioning and repository best practices.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  
  

• Professional experience with at least one major cloud provider.
• Understanding of hybrid environments with virtualization technologies (VMware, OpenStack…).
