Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen for a PMO Manager within Airbus Defence and Space, Getafe (Madrid). The selected candidate will join the Project Management Office in the Strategic Projects, playing a key role as a co-pilot to the Project Manager, proactively driving various project management processes. This includes disciplines such as:
- Project Governance and Communication
- Integrated Planning
- Risk and Opportunity Management

Responsibilities (shared with the rest of the PMO team):
- Maintain the Project Management Plan and ensure the program’s adherence to this plan.
- Manage the Project Management digital ecosystem to operate the program (e.g., Unified Planning, ADProjects, ARM, collaboration tools).
- Prepare and facilitate meetings and support preparation of milestones.
- Support the Project Manager in planning and preparing Maturity Gates.
- Maintain the program’s action register and drive the timely closure of actions.
- Coordinate preparation of reports in various formats for both internal and external customers.
- Ensure consistency among all contractual, financial, and technical requirements and coverage in the Project Management Plan (in close cooperation with the Project Controller, Customer Contract Manager, and Technical Manager).
- Maintain the program’s integrated plan in the appropriate toolset (e.g., Unified Planning), embedding inputs from all contributing stakeholders.
- Identify, track, and communicate the program’s critical path, proposing measures to shorten it.
- Track program progress and provide visualization and early warning of potential issues to allow for early mitigation, anticipation, and data-driven decisions.
- Act as the strategic interface between departments and functions, ensuring effective performance management and early warning for potential issues.
- Maintain the Risk and Opportunity (R&O) Management Plan of the program.
- Maintain the R&O register, including the facilitation of capture and assessment of risks and opportunities.
- Drive the definition and follow-up of R&O mitigation actions.
- Proactively seek out and implement improvements in your way of working, and in the overall execution of the program.
- Support project’s improvement governance and contribute to the achievement of its improvement objectives.
- Ensure consistency and integration between risk management, planning, and workload data, providing a unified and accurate view of project status and performance.
- Establish and maintain data governance processes to guarantee the reliability and coherence of information across different functions and systems.
- Produce Project History Report (yearly).
- Supervise overall Changes, to trigger CCN issues and build the relevant case.
- Interface with the S&OP process, to ensure consistency between the functions' needs and project budget.
- Degree-level education in Engineering or Business Administration.
- Previous experience in leading projects or as a PMO Manager is desired
- PMP certification is highly desirable
- Experience in managing/working with a project schedule.
- Experience in managing risks and opportunities, either as a risk manager or a project member.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work across functions, and to influence and persuade program stakeholders amid conflicting priorities.
- Experience with typical office applications and generally well-versed in digital tools is desired
- Experience in standard scheduling tools (e.g., Unified Planning, MS Project, Primavera) is desired.
- Experience using risk and opportunity management tools.
- Experience working in international teams and environments.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.

Airbus Space Systems Spain is looking for an Optical Payload Interface Manager to join the Chief Engineering team in Getafe.
The successful candidate will act as a System Engineer within the Satellite Prime team, with end-to-end technical responsibility for the integration within the satellite of optical payloads for Earth Observation missions, throughout the full project lifecycle.
In this role, the candidate will not only manage the payload-platform interfaces, but will also oversee, steer, and technically assess the design and development of the optical payload, ensuring that performance, architecture, and implementation choices are consistent with system-level objectives and constraints.
This role requires strong Systems Engineering know-how, applied specifically to the development, integration, and verification of optical payloads, ensuring their correct interfacing and performance within the satellite system.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as technical focal point and system authority for the optical payload within the Satellite System Engineering team for Earth Observation programs.
- Perform system engineering activities related to optical payloads, including requirements management, interface definition, performance budgeting / allocation and technical coordination.
- Ensure the coherent integration of the optical payload within the satellite system, covering:
- Mechanical, thermal, electrical, and data interfaces
- Functional and performance aspects
- Perform and support system-level analyses and trade-offs impacting the optical payload (e.g. mass, power, thermal stability, pointing)
- Oversee the optical payload architecture and design, including:
- Optical concept and performance budgets (MTF, radiometry, straylight, alignment)
- Instrument-level trade-offs and design drivers
- Payload development plan and technology maturation processes
- Contribution to in-orbit commissioning and performance monitoring
- Ensure that optical performance is maintained throughout development, AIT, and in-orbit phases.
- Lead and coordinate the technical follow-up of payload development, including:
- Monitoring supplier activities and deliverables
- Participating in reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.)
- Managing technical risks, anomalies, and non-conformances
- Contribute to system-level trade-offs involving payload design, performance, and satellite constraints.
- Ensure compliance with system requirements, applicable standards, and project processes.
- Interface with internal stakeholders (systems, AIT, operations, product assurance) and external partners or suppliers.
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, or similar.
- Solid background in Systems Engineering principles and methodologies.
- Experience in optical payloads and/or Earth Observation satellite systems.
- Knowledge of satellite system architecture and payload-platform interfaces.
- Experience covering several project phases, from early studies to implementation and verification.
- Experience working in a Satellite Prime environment is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ECSS standards and space project lifecycle.
- Strong analytical and system-level thinking.
- Ability to manage complex technical interfaces and multidisciplinary topics.
- Good communication skills for coordination within integrated project teams.
- Proactive, structured, and solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work in an international environment.
