We are hiring a Lead Data Governance Engineer with focus on data governance policies, processes, standards, and monitoring in compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory frameworks, e.g., GDPR, DPA, ISO, etc. A successful candidate will develop Python-based tooling to automate the operations of an internal data mesh solution such as data labeling and quality metrics in a data, access management and data security best practices.

The Data Governance team in the Commercial Systems unit has a mission to enable a secure and well-governed access to comprehensive data sets originating at many internal and external data sources formed in a data mesh. The team works with well-known open-source data governance tools such as Trino and Ranger, defines and executes data governance processes, and democratizes the data at Canonical.

Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.

This is a unique opportunity to use your software engineering and cryptography skills to build and maintain the security foundation that enables Ubuntu and its users to operate securely and remain compliant to international information security standards such as FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria. You will use your applied cryptography, Linux Security, and coding skills to enhance the Ubuntu distribution and work with organizations such as DISA and CIS to draft and implement security hardening benchmarks for Ubuntu.

As a member of the Security Hardening team you will work with and develop automation tooling to audit deployed systems for DISA-STIG and CIS benchmark compliance. You will interact with internal and external stakeholders to identify gaps in our frameworks, and develop new solutions to address these challenges. In this role you will have the opportunity to influence team and security culture, facilitate technical delivery, and help drive team direction and execution. You'll collaborate closely with Canonical's kernel team as well as the wider engineering organization to drive features impacting all Ubuntu users.

Day-to-day responsibilities

• Collaborate with other engineers in the Security Hardening team to achieve and retain various Security certifications
• Extend and enhance Linux cryptographic components (OpenSSL, Libgcrypt, GnuTLS, and others) with the features and functionality required for FIPS and CC certification
• Collaborate with external security consultants to test and validate kernel and crypto module components
• Work with external partners to develop security hardening benchmarks and audit + remediation automation for Ubuntu
• Contribute to Ubuntu mainline and upstream projects to land solutions and benefit the community
• Communication and collaboration within and outside Canonical to identify opportunities to improve our security posture, rapidly resolve issues, and deliver high-quality solutions on schedule

For a candidate that we assess as possessing considerable relevant experience, the annual salary on offer tends to be between £151,436 and £250,512 in London, and €145,430 and €240,330 elsewhere in Europe. Compensation varies by location and expected impact, and grows rapidly as you gain experience and translate it into greater contributions. For individuals who demonstrate exceptional capability, we may offer compensation that extends beyond the usual ranges to reflect their higher expected impact. If you're offered a permanent contract, you'll also be able receive some of your pay in company equity at a discounted price, thus participating in the value creation we achieve together. The selection process
If you pass our screening, we’ll ask you to take on a few tests designed to assess how you approach unfamiliar problems. They’re challenging and may take several hours to complete. If you’re successful with those, we’ll invite you to a series of interviews.

¿Cómo va a ser tu día a día?

• Gestión de proyectos de desarrollo de software a medida asociados a plataforma de desarrollo de aplicaciones Oracle APEX y PL-SQL.
• Gestionar, organizar, coordinar y dirigir los equipos que conforman los proyectos (interno o proveedor tercero).
• Seguimiento y control de proveedores. Coordinación de tareas con otras áreas de Alsa.
• Ingeniería inversa de procesos y de aplicaciones de software en tecnología Oracle APEX y PL- SQL.
• Generación y/o revisión de documentación funcional y técnica.
• Seguimiento de metodología y herramientas de Alsa.

¿Qué esperamos de ti?

• Ingeniero informático o grado superior en informática.
• Inglés B2/C1.
• 6/8 años de experiencia en posiciones similares.
• Experiencia en gestión de proyectos de desarrollo de software y herramientas asociadas.
• Amplia experiencia en uso de BBDD (SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle) y procesos PL-SQL, así como en plataforma de desarrollo de aplicaciones Oracle APEX.
