PhD Fellowship on protein-DNA footprinting based on Atomic Force Microscopy (Marie Sklodowska-Curie SPM4.0 Doctoral Network) Join to apply for the PhD Fellowship on protein-DNA footprinting based on Atomic Force Microscopy (Marie Sklodowska-Curie SPM4.0 Doctoral Network) role at IBEC's Core Facilities Introduction to the Position We offer a 3-year PhD position within the Horizon Europe MSCA-Doctoral Network "Autonomous Scanning Probe Microscopy for Life Sciences and Medicine powered by Artificial Intelligence (SPM4.0)." Funded by the European Union (GA: 101168976), this project involves 16 PhD positions across 10 research centers, academic institutions, and 3 companies in Spain, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, and the UK.
Project Overview The SPM4.0 project aims to advance autonomous scanning probe microscopy integrated with artificial intelligence for applications in life sciences and medicine.
The initiative focuses on developing label-free, nanoscale imaging techniques of living cells and biomolecules, fostering Europe's leadership in this field.
Research Group and Activities The BIAT group at IBEC focuses on biomedical challenges of infectious diseases and bacterial transcription mechanisms.
The Nanobioelec group develops multiscale bioelectricity approaches using microscopy, electronics, and AI for medical applications.
Research Project Responsibilities * Grow and overexpress proteins in E. coli using microbiology techniques.
- Purify and characterize transcription factors.
- Perform biological assays such as EMSA and in vitro transcription assays related to bacterial virulence.
- Develop sample preparation protocols for DNA-protein footprinting compatible with scanning force microscopy and create training datasets.
- Validate neural network algorithms for DNA-protein footprinting.
- Apply methodologies to non-footprinted DNA-protein systems.
- Self-critical, quick learner, good communicator, team player, proactive, committed, with integrity and analytical skills.
- Proficient in English.
Eligibility Conditions * No doctoral degree at the start date.
- Enrolled in a PhD program in Spain.
- Mobility rule: no residence or main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the past 36 months.
- 3-year full-time contract, starting between March and April 2025.
- Approximate gross annual salary: €33,583.34, including family allowances based on MSCA-DN guidelines.

Predoctoral fellow for Bioengineering Section The Bioengineering Department of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) is seeking candidates for applying for STEP grants to hire research staff in training (FI-STEP) for young scientists from the national and international community who wish to undertake a doctoral degree in bioengineering.
This PhD project will focus on developing novel biomaterials for regenerative therapies.
Key research areas include biomaterial synthesis and characterization, 3D bioprinting, cell-material interactions, and applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Main tasks and responsibilities * Conduct research adhering to high standards.
- Communicate and disseminate research findings to both expert and public audiences.
- Assist in drafting and submitting papers to peer-reviewed journals.
- Mentor bachelor's and master's degree students.
