Position Summary
The Project Director is responsible for leading the successful planning, execution, and delivery of data center construction projects in Badajoz, Spain. Reporting to the Head of Design & Construction Director, this role oversees all phases of project execution, from project mobilization and contractor management through commissioning and handover, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The Project Director serves as a key business partner, coordinating internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and suppliers while proactively managing risks, optimizing project performance, and supporting IREN's continued growth across its European data center platform.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Design & Construction Director, the Project Director is responsible for:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of data center construction projects in accordance with project objectives, budgets, schedules, and quality standards.
- Manage project start-up activities, including project planning, constructability reviews, procurement coordination, contractor mobilization, and project governance.
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, work breakdown structures, project management plans, and reporting processes.
- Oversee contractor performance throughout the construction lifecycle, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, project milestones, safety standards, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational handover activities to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while implementing appropriate corrective actions to minimize schedule or cost impacts.
- Monitor project budgets, forecasts, cost reporting, and contingency management in collaboration with project controls and finance teams.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, HSEQ requirements, regulatory obligations, and applicable construction standards.
- Lead project governance, reporting, stakeholder communications, and coordination with internal departments, external consultants, utility providers, and local authorities.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and implementing best practices across project delivery.
- Foster a strong safety culture and lead project teams through effective leadership, coaching, and performance management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience managing large-scale infrastructure, industrial, or mission-critical construction projects, preferably within data centers or comparable environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing EPC contractors throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of construction management, project controls, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and contract administration.
- Experience managing complex stakeholder environments involving consultants, contractors, suppliers, utility companies, and public authorities.
- Proven ability to manage project risks, resolve complex technical and commercial issues, and deliver projects within agreed performance targets.
- Knowledge of HSEQ management systems and construction regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication, negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working within fast-paced, international, and multidisciplinary organizations is highly desirable.
- Professional Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) would be considered an advantage.

- Compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
