Mandatory Requirements

Job Summary
At Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), we supply and maintain vital equipment and services for the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) have an extraordinary overseas opportunity for a Marine/Mechanical Engineer with a passion for innovation to make a real impact. Within our Support Ships organisation, the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) project is leading the charge in delivering three state-of-the-art ships, with construction set to begin at the end of 2025. The build strategy is for the aft section of each ship (including machinery spaces, accommodation areas and the bridge) to be built in Spain, with full assembling and commissioning in Belfast. These ships will play a vital role in supporting the Royal Navy’s global operations, and we need your expertise to help bring them to life.
As a Marine Engineering Oversight Lead, you are a key member of our shipyard oversight, assurance, and acceptance team. You will ensure that the aft sections of the FSS ships being constructed at the Navantia Puerto Real shipyard in Spain meet the highest standards of quality, design, and operational excellence.
In this role, you will ensure that all marine engineering aspects of the build meet contract specifications, design standards, and operational requirements. You will build strong, collaborative relationships with contractors, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders, fostering a spirit of cooperation and shared success. Monitoring and reporting on build progress with accuracy and insight will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will representing the MOD effectively at working group meetings and progress reviews. When technical issues arise, you will take a proactive and solution-focused approach to resolve them rapidly, ensuring the best outcomes for the project.
You will gain experience in a fast-moving project, using modern design techniques and acquiring knowledge to support your career development within DE&S that will be transferable to any ship design, build or support project. Whether you’re looking to deepen your expertise or broaden your horizons, this role will set you on a path to continued professional growth.
As an overseas assignment the role is full time only and with a tour length of 2 years, working out of the Navantia Puerto Real Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain. Prior to moving overseas the successful applicant will initially spend up to a month in post in the UK preparing for the role with the team in Bristol.

A Little Bit About Cadiz
Cadiz is the oldest city in Western Europe and is located in the southwestern part of Spain. It is a city on the seafront, with gardens and beaches, wide avenues and historical monuments. The city is famous for its annual Carnival, flamenco and exquisite regional cuisine. It boasts mild winters, and hot summers, with the Atlantic breeze tempering the summer heat.
The city centre is compact, walkable and the terrain is flat. There are local buses covering the city and nearby areas, such as San Fernando and Chiclana. Regular trains and trams connect Cádiz to Seville, Jerez de la Frontera, and Madrid. Seville is 1.5 hours away, and Madrid is 2.5 - 3.5 hours away by train or car. The nearest airport is Jerez airport, 43km away.
What You’ll Be Doing
