Permira is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join our Data Team based in Madrid, Spain. The Data Team was established in 2022 to roll out a comprehensive Data Strategy across the Permira Business and implement the necessary Data Platform to support all data-driven processes and analytics.
As the Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for handling a dynamic and constantly evolving data environment, designing, implementing, and operating scalable and robust cloud-based data pipelines, interfaces, and models. Your role will ensure the capture, validation, consolidation, and timely availability of internal and external data to analytics users in a reliable manner.
Working closely with data architects, data analytics experts, and visualization specialists, you will collaborate to guarantee the implementation and operation of necessary data flows that fulfil business requirements. As a problem solver, you will assume technical leadership of the group of Data Engineers within the team, providing sound knowledge to address day-to-day implementation issues. Additionally, you will proactively monitor data interfaces, data pipelines execution, and data quality rules, while providing mechanisms and tools for data reprocessing and data quality exception handling.

Key Responsabilities
- In close coordination with Data Architects to design, implement, and operate a robust, scalable, and flexible cloud-based data processing This framework will ensure the successful capture, processing, validation, and delivery of high-quality and timely data required to support data analytics and system integration requirements.
- Guarantee the implementation of best practices in terms of code versioning, technical documentation, and CI/CD of the technical artifacts
- Ensure the highest standards of quality, reliability, and scalability are met in the delivery of technical
- Act as the gatekeeper of delivery quality assurance, data operations, and proactively monitor data
- Participate in all Agile events, proactively contribute to the team, and pick up user stories and tasks to ensure successful
- Lead the onboarding process of new data sources into the data platform, supporting the implementation of necessary data
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related fields, or equivalent work
- Specific know-how or previous exposure to projects within the Accounting domain, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Asset Portfolio Management & Reporting is highly valued.
- Demonstrable exposure and knowledge of designing and implementing cloud-based data solutions to support Information Management and Analytics.
- Exposure to the implementation of Data Lake and Data Warehouse architecture
- Proven hands-on experience with developing Relational Previous experience with Snowflake is highly valued.
- Experience in the implementation and rollout of ETL/ELT Pipelines in a cloud environment using Python/Pyspark and dbt as foundational technologies. Experience in Data Bricks implementations is highly valued.
- Previous experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines on Cloud-based data
- Systems integration know-how in the development of APIs and experience with event streaming technologies is highly valued.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for data.

Reporting to a Director in Fund Finance, the individual will lead the data strategy workstream for Fund Finance, owning the ingestion of data feeds from external fund administrators into Snowflake and driving tech automation to maximise operational efficiency across the team.
We are looking for a technically strong and collaborative individual who can take ownership of Fund Finance’s data infrastructure. The successful candidate should be professional, demonstrate good communication and inter-personal skills, with a willingness to learn and further develop their career within the finance and technology functions of a leading global Private Equity Firm.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Snowflake Integration:
- Own the end-to-end ingestion of data feeds from external fund administrators into Snowflake, ensuring feeds are complete, accurately mapped to Permira’s data model and consistently reconciled
- Maintain automated data pipelines connecting fund administrator sources to Snowflake, partnering with the IT Data team on architecture, scheduling and monitoring
- Perform robust data validation and reconciliation across all ingested feeds, identifying and remediating quality issues to uphold the integrity of Fund Finance information
- Develop and document data governance standards, ownership frameworks and lineage documentation for all Fund Finance data assets held in Snowflake
- Support the broader Permira Data Strategy by championing Snowflake adoption within Fund Finance and collaborating with other business lines on shared data standards
- Define and enforce data quality standards across Fund Finance, establishing automated alerting and monitoring within Snowflake pipelines
- Translate Fund Finance reporting requirements into scalable automated dashboards and Snowflake-backed data models, reducing manual effort and improving analytical access
- Identify and implement AI and process automation opportunities across Fund Finance day-to-day operations to eliminate repetitive manual tasks
- Collaborate within the Fund Finance Data team to maintain and enhance Fund Finance models in Anaplan, supporting integration with Snowflake and ensuring reporting outputs align with validated source data
- Act as primary liaison between Fund Finance and the IT Data team, translating business requirements into technical data solutions and managing delivery against agreed timescales
- Engage directly with external fund administrators to understand data feed formats, delivery mechanisms and data dictionaries, driving feed improvements where needed
- Apply knowledge of regulatory and legal requirements and Permira corporate policies to ensure all data processes meet risk, control and compliance standards
- Foster a culture of innovation and tech automation within Fund Finance, proactively identifying and delivering efficiency improvements across team operations
Essential Skills and Characteristics

- Ability to navigate competing priorities and negotiate pragmatic solutions that balance technical constraints with business requirements
- Highly personable, with the ability to influence and create relationships at all levels
- Hands-on experience with process redesign, including mapping current-state workflows in tools like Visio and identifying where automation or AI can add meaningful value
- Proven track record building and maintaining automated data pipelines or ETL/ELT processes, ideally connecting external data providers to a central data warehouse
- Strong SQL proficiency for data validation, reconciliation, transformation and ad hoc analysis across large financial datasets
- Practical understanding of data governance principles including data ownership, lineage, quality controls and documentation standards
- Proficient in UML or equivalent BPMN process documentation techniques
- Ability to translate between IT and Finance — comfortable discussing technical data architecture with engineers and reporting outputs with senior stakeholders
- Experience of using AI tools or Power BI functionality
- Familiarity with Anaplan or similar planning and modelling tools used in a finance context (desirable but not essential)
- Familiarity with cloud-based data warehousing such as Snowflake (desirable but not essential)
