Ibiza’s native wall lizards are vanishing. Invasive snakes, introduced only 25 years ago, have decimated their populations and are now found in urban areas across the island. The impact is ecological collapse: insect outbreaks, palm die-offs, and disruption of native food webs.

The LizardShield Program is Ibiza’s grassroots platform to stop this crisis through mass deployment of safe snake traps, local training, data-driven coordination, and community engagement. Our mission is simple but urgent: protect the last surviving lizard populations, reverse the spread of invasive snakes, and preserve Ibiza’s unique biodiversity for generations to come.

By 2027, we aim to expand from ~7,000 traps to 40,000 across the island, supporting property owners, volunteers, and the local economy.

We are recruiting an experienced, hands-on, mission-driven Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead LizardShield through its most critical growth phase.

This is not a desk-only role. You’ll combine strategy, fundraising, partnership development, operational oversight, and field leadership. You’ll work with conservationists, property owners, local businesses, investors, and volunteers to build a scalable, effective island-wide trapping program.

You will be accountable for delivering measurable biodiversity protection and building an organization capable of sustained impact.

• Leadership & Strategy
• Define and execute LizardShield’s multi-year operational plan to reach 40,000 deployed traps by 2027.
• Build and manage a multidisciplinary team spanning field ops, training, data, fundraising, and community engagement.
• Maintain laser focus on program effectiveness—driving measurable reduction in snake populations and protection of lizard habitats.
• Fundraising & Partnerships
• Lead capital-raising efforts from donors, impact investors, businesses, and government sources.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local partners, landowners, NGOs, and supporters.
• Oversee the development of our digital operations and community engagement platform.
• Operational Excellence
• Ensure best practices in safe, humane, effective snake trapping.
• Oversee supply chains for traps and maintenance.
• Coordinate large-scale volunteer training programs.
• Implement rigorous data collection, reporting, and impact tracking.
• Advocacy & Communication
• Be the public face of LizardShield in Ibiza and internationally.
• Inspire action through clear, honest, compelling communication.
• Champion local empowerment and grassroots collaboration.
  

We’re looking for someone with the courage to tackle an ecological emergency head-on, the credibility to unite diverse stakeholders, and the operational skill to scale an island-wide program.

Must-have:

• Senior leadership experience in conservation, environmental NGO, impact enterprise, or large-scale field operations.
• Proven fundraising ability—grants, donors, partnerships, or investment.
• Ability to manage complex projects with real-world, boots-on-the-ground execution.
• Strong people leadership and team-building skills.
• Commitment to ethical, community-based conservation.
• Spanish and English fluency (Catalan a plus).

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in Mediterranean or island ecosystems.
• Background in invasive species management, wildlife monitoring, or community education.
• Tech-savvy with interest in digital community platforms and data systems.
