Do you have experience in the laboratory field and would like to further develop it within a century‑old company?

We are hiring!

What will you do?

  • Disease resistance screening. Under the guidance of your manager, you will be:
    • Responsible for planning all disease resistance screening tests.
    • Responsible for the execution of disease resistance tests requested, with validated protocols and with respect of the deadline.
    • Responsible for the maintenance of a viable plant pathogen and pest collection for specified crops.
    • To update periodically data on computer files and share results with defined person.
    • Ensure that all controls respond correctly.
  • Optimize and implement new or existing disease resistance screening protocols.
  • Coordinate some day-to-day routine activities for laboratory technicians (if requested by the manager).
  • Diagnostics
    • Responsible for internal diagnostic work to identify plant pathogens or follow-up external diagnostic work .
  • Seed Health
    • Responsible for performing internal seed health tests to detect plant pathogens or follow up external seed health tests.
  • Phytosanitary risk management
    • Participate in field inspection as described in the quality management system documentation to identify and eliminate risks associated with pests and plant pathogens.
    • To report the observations to the relevant parties and to ensure that corrective and preventive actions are taken.
  • Laboratory and greenhouse routines
    • Maintain hygiene standards in the laboratory, pathology greenhouses and phytotrons.
    • Ensure that there is a sufficient quantity and quality of laboratory consumables available for routine tasks.
    • Preparation of media, buffers and solutions.
    • Monitor the good functioning of laboratory equipment and inform your line manager in case of deviation.
  • Breeding software
    • Using Phenome breeding software to store, plan and execute all aspects of disease resistance screening trials.
  • QMS /HQS
    • Perform back-up tasks and duties as well as the adherence to QMS, H&S processes and procedures as stipulated in the Quality Management System.
    • Perform any other reasonable instruction within your ability and as can be reasonably and lawfully expected.
    • Responsible for the development and implementation of QMS and HQS processes and procedures.
    • Encourage and empower the team to work in a compliant way (respecting HQS processes, Phytosanitary itinerary, etc.).
Where will you work?

You will be located in Puebla de Vícar (Almería), in our Resrach Station.

Do you fit this profile?

  • Core knowledge: M.Sc degree in plant pathology, plant sciences, agriculture or similar / Bac + 5 years / English.
  • Job knowledge: Agricultural and more specific vegetable production techniques, seed process techniques, experimental and statistical techniques, plant genetic improvements, plant pathology, molecular biology.
  • Job know-how: Internal QMS protocols, advanced data capturing and plant pathology.
  • Core soft-skills: Strong organizational skills, verbal communication, writing skills, ability to work in team, cultural openness, flexibility/ adaptability/ ability to deal with a changing environment, reliability, autonomy, initiative and self -questioning, sense of service and accurate.
  • Job soft skills: Tidy, decision making.
