What You’ll Do & Who You Are
As an experienced Data Scientist, you will:
- Understand user needs and business opportunities and identify where Machine Learning can bring the greatest impact.
- Develop machine learning models from scratch or fine-tune existing ones.
- Train and test deep learning models.
- Team work using Agile methodology and be part of the end-to-end process, collaborate with other profiles in the team.
- Detect the data that may be useful in upcoming projects and verify whether this data already exists or needs to be tracked.
- Deliver incremental work, following lean product development principles.
- Share your knowledge with your colleagues to boost machine learning in Adevinta and strengthen our machine learning community.
- Identify challenges and growth for business.
- Have experience applying machine learning and deep learning methods to:
- Develop solutions to address impactful business needs.
- Provide hands-on support in a range of Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing related tasks.
- Assure quality and robustness of data science outputs.
- Work with other team members to help productionize end-to-end ML solutions.
- Demonstrate a robust ethical framework and critical thinking skills when developing, implementing, or utilizing AI technologies.
- Experience in applying Generative AI technologies to solve business problems, while demonstrating a thorough understanding of its associated risks.
- Proficiency in Python with ability to translate ideas into prototypes.
- Experience working in cloud environment (e.g. AWS)
- Experience with Agile philosophies (e.g. Scrum) and project management tools (e.g.: JIRA).
- Have strong interpersonal communication skills to:
- Engage with stakeholders and understand business requirements.
- Clearly communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

As a Data Scientist in the Lending Tribe, you will play with a huge dataset with billions of transactions from millions of active users. From there, you will build impactful models to help businesses across multiple countries get access to credit through SumUp’s different lending products. You’ll be part of a team of talented analysts, engineers, and other scientists using an advanced stack of tools to create innovative solutions for our products.
What You Will Do
- Improve the core lending models: credit risk scoring and affordability forecasting models using machine learning solutions
- Define data collection strategies and new algorithms for models to support expansion to new market segments
- Perform analyses and present your insights to enable SumUp business teams to make data-driven, mission-critical decisions (DROP)
- Communicate and present results to product and business stakeholders
- Mentor other Data Scientists to pursue data science excellence through good engineering practices
- Build production-grade ML solutions using Python, scikit-learn, LightGBM, and PySpark—delivered with testing, monitoring, and reproducibility baked in

We are looking for a talented and passionate Data Scientist to join the Lifecycle Data team in our Barcelona HQ.
Data Science, Machine Learning, and Experimentation are key drivers of Glovo’s customer engagement strategy. Data scientists at Lifecycle own some of the most impactful models and insights that optimize Glovo’s user retention and loyalty. This includes churn prediction models, customer segmentation, lifetime value modeling, and personalized recommendation engines. As a Data Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work on projects that directly impact Glovo’s ability to maximize user engagement, retention, and overall lifetime value.
THE JOURNEY
- Develop, test, and productionize predictive and prescriptive algorithms using state-of-the-art machine learning, statistical inference, and optimization models.
- Evaluate algorithms through controlled offline (e.g., cross-validation) and online experiments (e.g., A/B testing, uplift modeling).
- Contribute to one or more of the following areas: churn prediction, customer segmentation, lifetime value modeling, and personalized recommendations.
- Design and implement experiments to measure the effectiveness of lifecycle initiatives, providing actionable insights to product and marketing teams.
- Work in cross-functional teams across disciplines such as product, engineering, growth, and CRM, amongst others.
- Stay on top of new technologies and industry trends in data science, customer analytics, and retention strategies.
- Promote best-in-class standards, taking inspiration from industry thought leaders.
- Deep theoretical and applied knowledge in at least one of the following areas: traditional machine learning, statistical modeling, causal inference, customer analytics, time series analysis, and optimization.
- Extensive experience with the end-to-end predictive/prescriptive model development cycle, from problem definition to productionalization and maintenance. This includes:
- Strong data modeling and SQL skills.
- Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Luigi, Dagster) and cloud infrastructures (GCP, AWS, Azure).
- Extensive experience using the Python ML and DS ecosystem.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English, as you will use it to collaborate with stakeholders and senior management from diverse backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of agile development.
- Change management skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong presentation skills in communicating with experts and non-experts alike.
- Experience in applying Data Science techniques to customer retention, engagement, and lifecycle optimization.

- At least an MSc, and preferably a PhD in a scientific discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
