ROLE SUMMARY:
King’s College School Soto de Viñuelas, in Madrid, is seeking to appoint an experienced and visionary Head of Sixth Form for a late August 2025 start date. The successful candidate will be responsible for the academic progress, personal development, and future pathways of approximately 350 students in Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13), working closely with the Head of Secondary and as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Sixth Form, setting the vision and culture for academic and pastoral excellence.
- Oversee the work of the Heads of Year 12 and 13, and tutor team, ensuring consistent and high-quality support for all students.
- Lead the induction, transition, and tracking processes from Year 11 into Sixth Form and through to university or career destinations.
- Monitor students’ academic progress, behaviour and wellbeing, taking early and effective action where needed.
- Coordinate Sixth Form events including assemblies, induction days, and higher education preparation programmes.
- Collaborate closely with the IB Coordinator, Universities Counsellor, and Examinations Officer to support curriculum delivery and university applications.
- Guide and mentor students through the UCAS process, personal statements, references, and broader higher education guidance.
- Promote and oversee student leadership, including prefects and the School Council.
- Support extracurricular initiatives, whole-school events, and contribute to wider school life.
- Take part in SLT duties, including teaching and learning reviews, and help shape the school’s academic strategy.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Proven middle leadership experience within a secondary or post-16 setting.
- A strong understanding of Sixth Form education, particularly the A Level and/or IB Diploma pathways.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- A passion for student success, wellbeing, and future readiness.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and a commitment to continued learning.
- The ability to lead and inspire colleagues, and contribute meaningfully to school-wide development and extracurricular programmes.
