About Lanai

Lanai Ventures is a founder-built fund backing pre-seed companies in Spain. We started in 2019 with a simple belief: the best time to back a great founder is before anyone else does. Three vehicles and 50+ investments later, that belief has not changed. Our portfolio includes companies like Cobee, Embat, Flanks, Payflow, Depasify, Livo, and many others.

We are operators and entrepreneurs first, investors second. We know what it feels like to build something from nothing, and that shapes everything about how we work with founders. We are also a community: most of our backers are founders themselves.

Role Description

This is a real investing role. You will own every stage of the process, from the first conversation with a founder to the final terms of a deal. As a first-check fund, we often back companies before anyone else has validated them. That takes conviction, speed, and genuine curiosity about people and ideas. You will also have direct access to some of the most experienced founders and operators in Spain, through our portfolio and our LP base. We invest in your growth as an investor from day one.

Responsibilities

You will own all aspects of the process, from sourcing through execution and portfolio support:

• Evaluating investment opportunities through market research, competitive analysis, financial modelling, and investment memo preparation
• Analysing market and technology trends to proactively identify emerging opportunities
• Working with portfolio companies post-investment, providing support across fundraising, hiring, and strategy
• Building and maintaining relationships with founders, co-investors, and the broader startup community

Qualifications

You have hands-on experience in the Spanish startup ecosystem, whether in VC or a high-growth startup, and you bring sharp analytical thinking and genuine curiosity about founders and markets. Specifically, we are looking for someone who is:

• Familiar with the Spanish startup ecosystem, with hands-on experience in VC or a high-growth startup
• A strong network with founders and operators in Spain, and the ability to develop a well-reasoned point of view on markets and companies. In a first-check fund, relationships are often how the best deals arrive before anyone else sees them
• A motivated self-starter with the ability to work well in an unstructured environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• A strong relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a small team
• Analytically rigorous with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate thoughts clearly
• Comfortable forming a view and making judgment calls under uncertainty, with limited information and tight timelines
• Fluent in Spanish and English, spoken and written
• A degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related field is a plus, but we value experience over credentials
• Based in Madrid. We work in a flexible, hybrid model
