The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with a strong technical background rooted in fundamental computer science and database management. The position requires a team player who strives for engineering and technical excellence, and is passionate about leveraging technology to change the face of medicine.

In this role, you will act as a technical lead, driving the long-term planning, architecture, and design of initiatives such as our core ML and Data Platform. You will handle complex data projects alongside cross-functional teams, providing the robust infrastructure and tooling necessary for our Data Scientists to accomplish their research and production goals efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the central technical liaison between project stakeholders and the Data Science team, taking full ownership of integrating and deploying algorithms and machine learning models into production workflows
• Design, build, and scale cloud-native and hybrid data and machine learning platforms (MLOps) tailored to the complex, evolving needs of our established Data Science team
• Plan, architect, and develop long-term enterprise tooling and infrastructure for internal use to accelerate and streamline ML model research, training, and evaluation
• Take responsibility for the end-to-end software and data architecture within Data Science initiatives, independently driving the specification, implementation, and testing of complex technical assignments
• Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert, gathering requirements from data-focused profiles to continuously improve the ML platform while mentoring peers to foster a culture of engineering excellence
  
  
  

• A Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field
• Extensive professional experience in software engineering with Python, including a deep understanding of Application Architecture and Design Patterns
• Strict adherence to coding best practices (e.g., TDD, ATDD), rigorous testing strategies, and proper version control
• A very good understanding of complete ML workflows and hands-on experience provisioning the infrastructure required to support them
• Significant experience with various storage technologies, understanding their specific trade-offs (e.g., Relational Databases, No-SQL Databases, Object Storage)
• Solid knowledge and practical experience with HPC (High-Performance Computing) and AWS-based data engineering and analytics solutions
• Tech Stack Alignment: Deep familiarity with the Python data ecosystem (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn), proficiency in Linux environments, and hands-on experience with modern data integration, ETL, and MLOps tools
  
  

• Domain knowledge or a strong interest in the life sciences sector, specifically Sequencing, PCR, Bioinformatics, or digital healthcare
• Experience building, deploying, or working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic systems
• Official Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional)

The Opportunity

Are you ready to architect the global digital process landscape and lead the strategic optimization of systems that drive our end-to-end global procurement operations? As our Business Capability Lead (BCL) located in Sant Cugat, Spain, you will take strategic and operational ownership over critical segments of the global Demand-to-Pay process landscape. In this high-impact role, you will define process governance, integrate complex interfaces across corporate ecosystems, and serve as a vital change agent to accelerate the myBuy solution adoption across the enterprise. myBuy is Roche's digital procurement platform, designed to enhance the procure-to-pay process by providing transparency, timely transactions, and automation for our buying operations.

• Reporting Line: Reports directly to our Sourcing Lead and is part of the Procurement Center of Excellence (CoE)
• Wider team and stakeholders: Leads a global Business Capability Community formed by SMEs. You will manage cross-functional relationships across the DOP Leadership Team (DPLT), CoE LT, DOP Delivery, DOP Sourcing Teams, RSS Demand to Pay, Global Procurement, and external technology providers
• Role Type: As BCL, you represent DOP`s business interests globally in relevant forums, and you are responsible for the development and continuous improvement of DOP`s procure-to-pay strategy.
• Impact: You drive global operational efficiency, process compliance, and large-scale digital adoption. Specifically, you are accountable for:
• Process Design & Strategy: Developing and deploying the DOP roadmap for myBuy, in alignment with functional partners like DIA Global Supply Chain and RSS Demand to Pay.
• Automation & Innovation: Proactively identifying opportunities for process automation and digitalization in close collaboration with Delivery, Category, Digital & Process Management, and RSS Demand to Pay
• SME Analysis & Governance: Acting as a deep subject matter expert to analyze, elaborate options, and design solutions that resolve process, system, performance indicator, or data concerns, while supporting data and rule definitions
• Transformation Project Delegation: Serving as a responsible delegate on major corporate initiatives (such as the ASPIRE program; our overarching process and digital transformation) to support global template adoption and evaluate localized change impacts.
• Continuous Improvement: Leading continuous improvement initiatives, managing global requirement alignment, and partnering with fellow BCLs and Business Capability Owners (BCOs) to optimize end-to-end cross-functional performance.
• Community & ARTS Representation: Leading the Business Capability Community of SMEs and representing DOP in communities and Agile Release Trains (ARTs)
• Knowledge Management: Governing the development, structural maintenance, and delivery of global system process documentation and training materials.
• Conflict & Exposure: Resolving matrix conflicts regarding competing project priorities or process expectations, while delivering high-frequency monthly or quarterly KPI updates (such as cycle times and compliance) to the CoE LT and DPLT
  
  

• Education: University degree with a business or life sciences focus is required; a Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) and professional certifications (such as CIPS) are highly preferred.
• Experience: Deep expert knowledge of procurement systems and enterprise architectures (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, GEP Smart / GEP Nexxe), coupled with a robust understanding of the broader procurement technology provider landscape.
• Process Expertise: Extensive experience in the design, management, and continuous improvement of complex business processes, with distinct experience operating within the Demand-to-Pay landscape.
• AI & Digitalization: Advanced knowledge in AI application and a strong affinity to explore AI-driven solutions broadly, particularly regarding the digital transformation of operations (Digital 2.0 / Industry 4.0)
• Change & Stakeholder Management: Proven track record of guiding stakeholder groups, managing escalations, navigating communication lines, and leading cross-functional project teams without direct headcount authority.

The Position

What will your main responsibilities be?

You will provide direct support to the People Relations team in the day-to-day management of the employee lifecycle and collective labour relations, collaborating in the following areas:

• Internal advisory: Support the resolution of employee queries related to the collective bargaining agreement, employment rights, leave policies, vacation entitlements, and Spanish labour legislation
• Employee and labour relations: Assist in the preparation of documentation and reports for Employee Representatives (Works Council), labour inspections, and collective bargaining processes. Prepare meeting minutes and presentations related to employment and labour relations topics
• Case management and compliance: Support the administration and follow-up of disciplinary processes, organisational restructuring initiatives, administrative conciliation procedures, and employment litigation matters, while ensuring compliance with Spanish labour legislation and internal policies
• Reporting and international projects: Prepare labour relations reports and documentation in English, contributing to the monitoring of key metrics and supporting the global People & Culture team
  
  

• Education: You are currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources, Law, or a Master's/Postgraduate qualification specialising in Labour Law or Employment Law in Spain
• Languages: Fluent English (minimum B2/C1 level), both written and spoken, with the ability to collaborate with international teams and interpret corporate documentation
• Eligibility: You must be eligible to sign an internship agreement (Convenio de Prácticas) with a university or educational institution in Spain
• Key competencies: Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, ability to handle confidential information with discretion, excellent communication skills, and a proactive attitude
• Technical skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and PowerPoint). Knowledge of HR systems such as Workday will be considered an advantage
