Selection Process
In May 2018, EURAXESS awarded the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya a Human Resources Excellence in Research Award, ensuring that candidates are selected solely based on excellence criteria. Furthermore, since 2016, we have been affiliated with the HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) seal, an initiative by the European Commission aimed at giving public recognition to institutions that have made progress in aligning their human resources policies. This alignment improves employment and working conditions for teaching and research staff, thereby enhancing the appeal of academic and scientific careers.
The Selection Process At UIC Barcelona Includes
- An independent committee of experts that evaluates all applications and decides who advances to the next stage. This committee includes both external and internal members of UIC Barcelona.
- A public oral defense by the finalist candidates: a presentation on their career (research, management, and teaching). After the presentation, the examination panel will ask a series of questions to conclude the defense. The entire defense should last 60 minutes.
The Department of Applied Linguistics is looking for a junior researcher in the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Priority will be given to highly motivated candidates who aspire to develop their research aligned with the research lines of the GRAM research group at the Institute for Multilingualism and to develop their individual and collaborative research with other group members. More specifically,
The GRAM Group Carries Out Applied Linguistics Research On
- The effects of Integrated Content and Language in Higher Education (ICLHE),
Language (EFL) instruction on linguistic development.
- Social interaction and its affordances for teaching, learning and teacher
Instruction) contexts.
- The acquisition and maintenance of Catalan, Spanish, foreign and heritage
The position also requires teaching duties within the Department.
Starting date September 2025.

Requisitos
Requirements
The candidate must have:
- A PhD in a discipline related to the position (e.g. SLA, Applied Linguistics,
- Previous teaching experience in Higher Education (EFL, ESP, EAP areas) is desirable.
The following aspects of the candidate’s application will be taken into consideration:
- Experience in SLA research (Classroom-based research, instructed SLA, CLIL/ICLHE, EMI, TBLT, L2 Pragmatics, Language Assessment, Research Methodology, Bilingualism, or a related field) with skills and proven experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with experience in obtaining (predoctoral) funding.
- Teaching experience (with positive students’ evaluations) at the undergraduate level in the fields of English as a Foreign language, English for Specific Purposes and/or English for Academic Purposes.
- Ability to work in groups and with other teams.
- Ability to coordinate subjects: creating and updating materials, training other teachers, managing time and communicating with teachers and students.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (C1/C2 proficiency level).

What We Offer
- A 3-year tenure track with candidate evaluation at 18 months. Upon completion of the tenure track period and successful achievement of all agreed objectives and conditions, you will be awarded a permanent position at UIC. Once the position is granted, your status as a member of UIC Barcelona’s teaching and research staff will be governed by the faculty regulations in force at that time.
- A competitive salary based on the candidate’s qualifications.
- UIC is committed to supporting the professor in carrying out both teaching and research duties. You may receive funding to attend one national or international conference per year, up to a maximum gross amount of €1,500 (against invoice).
If selected to fill the vacancy, the candidate will be offered a full-time contract and a planned tenure track agreement of three years, extendable for an additional year. The starting salary will vary depending on the candidate’s profile and experience. Throughout the tenure track period, you will be expected to engage in research, teaching, and institutional service, with goals set at the beginning of the appointment. Based on performance and achievement of these goals, salary supplements may be granted. Upon successful completion of the tenure track and fulfillment of the objectives, you will obtain a permanent position with a salary aligned to the current salary scales and your academic and research experience.
