About Pack2Earth
Pack2Earth is an award-winning, Barcelona-based impact start-up on a mission to replace fossil-based plastic with our non-toxic biobased materials for packaging and other uses. Afterall, why should we accept each having 7g of microplastics in our brains, which has strong and proven correlation with dementia, and eating PFAS, endocrine disruptors and bisphenols with our food, which cause fertility decline, and health problems ranging from obesity to cancer? …not to mention fossil plastics’ high CO2 footprint or their omnipresence in the great outdoors, killing wildlife and the planet.
At Pack2Earth, we replace the hardest plastic packaging types to make with home compostable biomaterials, which are those with high barriers to water vapour, oxygen and grease, which afford a long shelf-life to the products packaged in them. In fact, “high barrier” and “home compostable” are two terms which didn’t go together until we came on the scene.
With several materials already market-ready and others in development, we’re on a mission to radically shift how packaging is produced and disposed of. We work at the cutting edge of material innovation, sustainability, and circular economy principles, and our approach often involves co-development with corporates and partners through R&D collaboration and licensing.
We recently closed our 2nd, seed round of investment for €1.6m, which gives us a comfortable runway, allowing us time to develop new materials to expand our portfolio of solutions.
Role Overview
We're seeking advanced materials researchers with extensive experience in home compostable biobased material R&D&I to work in our new laboratory, which we're setting up now in Badalona, Spain, which is within 20 minutes from the centre of Barcelona. A chemistry background with possible additional knowledge in biotechnology is preferred. Key processing techniques for our materials include extrusion and lamination, injection molding, thermoforming and blow molding, amongst others.
We're looking for scientists who can execute practical, fast R&D with clear, measurable milestones, who are able to communicate results across technical and non-technical teams and make a beeline from experiment to product and revenue.
Previous experience using AI to speed up formulating materials and/or a strong grasp of how technology can assist your workflow is required.
English is the company's official language. Speaking Spanish is also helpful for the role, although not essential. You must have the right to work in Spain or be able to get it very quickly.
How to Apply
Send us your CV through LinkedIn and a brief cover letter telling us:
- Why you're excited about Pack2Earth and what concerns you
- A quick story about an intractable R&D&I problem you solved and how you solved it
- Where you're based and when you could start
