Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!
Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.
We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.
It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.
Kraken Customer
What we do: build the most AI-driven, innovative, forward-thinking platform for energy management. From optimizing resources to delivering cost-effective, exceptional customer experiences through advanced Customer Information Systems (CIS), billing, meter data management, CRM, and AI-driven communications, Kraken is powering the next wave of innovation in the energy industry.
Why we do it: future energy will not look like energy as we know it today. We need to not just think about our future, but build for it. Now.
Our team
All technology is written and maintained by a multi-discipline engineering team of around 900 people globally. This includes server-side, client-side and mobile engineers working closely with UX experts, copywriters and designers.
We follow a Kanban-like approach, using Google docs and Asana to specify and manage work; Github, CircleCI and Terraform Enterprise as part of an immutable-infrastructure, continuous delivery pipeline; and Loggly, Sentry and Cloudwatch to measure performance and monitor production.
Some of our coding conventions are open-source .
Kraken is a great place to learn, work with some talented engineers and level-up your skills.
More recently, we have acquired the green energy start up Umeme in order to bring the green energy revolution to the Spanish market. Read more HERE.
It's in making this vision a reality that we are looking for you to help us achieve this.
Our team
All technology is written and maintained by a multi-discipline engineering team of around 500 people globally.
Octopus is a great place to learn, work with some talented engineers and level-up your skills.
Our technology
On the server-side, we mainly use Python. Most of our websites are powered by Django, Django-REST-framework and GraphQL (Graphene).
We use AWS heavily, employing most of the "Hashistack" (eg Packer, Consul, Terraform) as part of a continuous deployment pipeline. See, for example, Django, ELB health checks and continuous delivery.
Client-side, we use React, Redux and SASS; our mobile apps are built using native code or React Native.
What You'll Do
- We have lots of difficult design challenges to solve. The Spanish energy market is complicated, outdated and process-heavy - there's an awful lot of domain modelling that we need to get right. Strong attention to detail is essential
- We have difficult technical problems to solve. With the advent of smart meters, we'll soon be processing millions of meter readings a day. We need the right technology in place to handle this smoothly as well as feeding data into a machine learning pipeline that models and predicts consumption
- There's a great opportunity for disruption in the Spanish energy market. The big suppliers still dominate, but are not exactly popular. The energy landscape is changing as we move to more dis-aggregated forms of generation, with less predictability, more dynamism and smarter technology. Octopus Energy were the first UK supplier to introduce a "tracker" tariff whose prices track the daily wholesale prices: http://www.cleanenergynews.co.uk/news/efficiency/octopus-offers-transparency-with-wholesale-price-tariff
- You'll be working for a company that’s fighting climate change. Our parent company is the largest investor in solar generation in the UK, and are funding wind and anaerobic digestion. As a supplier, we're helping people to use greener technology and renewable energy, all helping move the UK towards a lower carbon future
- We're looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful. It would be helpful to have experience/expertise in the following (in rough priority order):
- Python
- Django (or equiv. web framework)
- Domain modelling
- HTTP and REST APIs
- Writing robust and fault-tolerant software
- Celery and async processing
- Postgres
- English & Spanish
- AWS
- Terraform, Packer, Consul
- React and Redux
- Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Kraken - what's more important to us is finding the right Kraken-fit!
- Kraken has an unique culture. An organisation where people learn, decide, and build quicker. Where people work with autonomy, alongside a wide range of amazing co-owners, on projects that break new ground. We want your hard work to be rewarded with perks you actually care about! Our Group CEO, Greg has recorded a podcast about our culture and how we empower our people
- Visit our perks hub - Kraken Employee Benefits
Are you ready for a career with us? We want to ensure you have all the tools and environment you need to unleash your potential. If you have any specific accommodations or a unique preference, please contact us at [email protected] and we'll do what we can to customise your interview process for comfort and maximum magic!
Studies have shown that some groups of people, like women, are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Kraken, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our people are our strongest asset and the unique skills and perspectives people bring to the team are the driving force of our success. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute. We consider all applicants without regard to race, colour, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital or veteran status, disability, or any other legally protected status. Social Media & Content Strategist
Spyders · Madrid, ES
. React
Spyders is looking for a Social Media & Content Strategist to help shape, manage, and grow content across both our internal brand accounts and our client accounts. This includes Spyders, Spyders Brazil, and other brand channels, as well as the social presence of selected clients and talents we work with. This is not just a posting role. We are looking for someone who lives and breathes social media, understands culture, knows what is trending before everyone else, and can turn ideas into strong content directions.
Because we work closely within football and sports, it is important that you already understand that world. You should know the culture, the conversations, the players, the moments, and what actually performs across platforms like Instagram and TikTok. We want someone creative, highly organized, proactive, and genuinely hungry to do great work.
Just as important, you need to have strong visual judgment. You should naturally understand what looks good, what feels current, what fits a brand, and what does not. We are looking for someone with a real eye for aesthetics, detail, and presentation across social media.
This role is fast-paced and demanding. It is not a typical 9 to 5 position. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, high availability, and real motivation to stay on top of things every day. You need to be the type of person who is naturally active on your phone, always aware of what is happening online, and ready to react quickly when needed.
What you will do:
• Manage and grow social media accounts for both Spyders and Spyders clients
• Come up with creative content ideas and social concepts
• Stay on top of trends, culture, football, sports, and platform updates
• Help shape the visual direction and content quality of the accounts
• Work closely with clients and communicate clearly and professionally
• Help plan, organize, and execute content strategies
• Bring your own ideas to the table instead of waiting to be told what to do
• Spot opportunities quickly and turn them into content moments
What we are looking for:
• Strong understanding of Instagram, TikTok, and social media culture
• Good knowledge of football, sports, and what is relevant in that space
• Strong visual judgment and a clear eye for aesthetics
• Creative mindset with a sharp eye for ideas that can perform
• Very organized and able to handle multiple things at once
• Excellent communication skills with both team members and clients
• Proactive, reliable, and motivated
• Strong work ethic and willingness to go the extra mile
• A positive attitude and easy to work with personality
This role is ideal for someone who is obsessed with social media, deeply connected to football and culture, has a sharp sense for what looks good online, and wants to be part of a team creating standout work for both Spyders and the exciting clients we work with.
