Tasks

What you’ll be doing

Your work will directly impact how thousands of companies and candidates experience hiring. Here’s what that looks like:

• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and DevOps/platform teams to build meaningful features through our Agile SDLC/Kanban workflow.
• Conduct peer code reviews and contribute to retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
• Define technical requirements and identify the best solutions to meet team goals.
• Participate in engineering retrospectives focused on testing, architecture, automation, and coding standards.
• Always think beyond the code - you’ll focus on delivering value and improving the user experience for our customers.

Who you’ll work with

You’ll join our Backend Guild, collaborating closely with Product, Platform, DevOps, and Frontend teams. We care deeply about quality, performance, and a great developer experience – supported by clean architecture, code generation, linters, templates, and test-driven development.
Requirements

What we’re looking for

We don’t believe in checklists - but if most of these apply to you, we’d love to chat:

✔ 5+ years of backend development experience.

✔ 2+ years of experience with a strongly typed language or TypeScript.

✔ Strong experience with RDBMS (raw queries or via ORM).

✔ Solid background in unit and integration testing.

✔ Experience with message brokers (SNS, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, etc.).

Bonus: Experience with Node.js, GraphQL, GCP or AWS, gRPC and protobufs.

Bonus: Strong grasp of SOLID principles.

Uría Menéndez is a leading international law firm headquartered in Iberia, consistently involved in the most significant and prestigious transactions in Spain and Portugal and the leading legal advisor for Spanish and Portuguese clients for cross-border M&A deals outside of the Iberian peninsula.

We are renowned for our capacity for innovation, profound analysis of the law and unwavering commitment to our clients, and provide advice of the highest quality to, among others, domestic and international corporations, financial institutions, asset managers, investment funds, governments and regulatory bodies.

In its international practice, Uría Menéndez works with the “Best Friends” network of likeminded, market-leading independent firms from around the world, creating cross-firm teams to provide our clients with the highest quality legal advice on a wide range of cross-border matters, whatever the governing law.

The team and the role

We are now looking to expand our Madrid-based international cross-border M&A team.

The international M&A team consists of a small group of English qualified M&A lawyers with significant London experience at magic circle or other leading UK / US firms, as well as rolling secondees from our London “Best Friend”, leading UK firm Slaughter and May. The team sits within the firm’s wider Corporate / M&A practice area (ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global) and works on a fully integrated basis with Uría Menéndez Spanish and Portuguese M&A teams, our affiliated firm PPU in Latin America and the “Best Friends” network on a wide variety of cross-border corporate / M&A transactions.

We are seeking to recruit a junior to mid-level (0 - 5 PQE) corporate / M&A associate to join this international M&A team in Uría Menéndez’s Madrid office. The core focus of the work will be cross-border M&A, private equity, joint ventures and other corporate transactions, which will all have an international element.

About You

You will:

• be an English qualified solicitor currently working in the Corporate / M&A practice area of an international or City firm;
• have excellent written and communications skills, and strong technical and commercial abilities;
• be looking for a move to Spain, with the intention to establish yourself here on a medium to long-term basis;
• be keen to join a leading international firm with a collegiate atmosphere and work on market-leading cross-border transactions;
• be a team player who is also able to work independently where required, and able to take on a high degree of responsibility and manage a challenging workload; and
• be intellectually curious with cultural sensitivity.
  
  

Spanish language skills are preferred, but not required if you can demonstrate some aptitude for languages and a commitment to learning Spanish over time.
