About The Business Division
The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design. Together, we deliver best-in-class solutions to our clients while offering diverse and technically stimulating opportunities to our people.

Overview Of The Role
Having been appointed to several UK AMP8/9 water consultancy frameworks, we are looking for a Project Technical Lead to manage the technical delivery of clean water & wastewater projects/programme of works, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams. You would build on the good work done in establishing our frameworks and work with our technical discipline leads to ensure projects within the wastewater programme are delivered on time, budget and drive technical excellence. This will be a customer facing role requiring close working relationships with our clients as part of a collaborative approach.

The role is expected to progress and evolve in line with the framework requirements and the candidates’ own skills and development areas. It offers an excellent opportunity to create future-proofed services and solutions that embrace latest innovations in digital technology and the chance to mentor the next generation of talent within our business.

The role will work as part of an integrated team across Spain, the UK and Ireland, collaborating closely to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes for our clients.

Candidate specification
Essential:

• Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution
• An understanding of conventional and innovative water or wastewater treatment technologies
• Track record of engineering technical coordination
• Experience in development and delivery of feasibility and outline design solutions within the UK water sector
• Ability to support bids, fee proposals or offers of service
• Ability to check and review technical deliverables, calculations and reports
• Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi-disciplinary teams as well as Client teams
• Desire to take a leading role with client engagement

• Track record of developing junior staff
• Understanding of key water or wastewater sector treatments and sustainability needs
• Understanding of drivers for treatment investment in England and Wales

Overview Of The Role

As a Senior Hydrologist, you will be an integral part of our wider Water Resources and Flooding services which brings together a wealth of knowledge and experience in hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality, catchment management, climate resilience, hydraulic modelling, flood risk, computational fluid dynamics and associated disciplines.

We have an exceptionally strong record in providing hydrology and climate science services and expertise to the UK and international water and hydropower sectors. Our clients are increasingly demanding better predictions of the impact of climate change on the availability of water and the frequency and magnitude of floods, and we are continually innovating to support them. We have developed advanced rainfall-runoff models and weather generators as well as our own digital tool to interrogate and process the latest climate projections and run meteorological forecasts. Our portfolio includes the major UK water companies as well as the EA and SEPA. We are regularly involved in hydropower projects around the world supporting developers and lenders, and we undertake climate change risk assessments and impact assessments at a local, regional or national scale.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading delivery of and provision of technical advice to a wide range of hydrology topics including
• Low flow assessments and water systems modelling to define the availability of water for supply during droughts
• Implementation of hydrological forecasting systems
• Estimation of changes in climate variables in the future by using global or regional projections
• Flood hydrology studies incorporating the impact of climate change
• Hydropower feasibilities studies, including the definition of design floods and the verification of energy generation
• Climate change risk assessments of assets or portfolios of assets
• Leading bid and proposal writing across water resources, environmental and engineering sectors.
• Providing senior oversight and mentoring to the team
• Producing high quality reports and presentations for clients

Candidate specification
We are looking for someone with a proven track record in the field and with a passion for learning and innovating in this fast-moving discipline.

Essential:

• Relevant degree level qualification (such as hydrology, geography, mathematics, civil engineering, or other related discipline)
• Chartered Status with a recognised Professional Institution
• Knowledge of low flows hydrology which could include rainfall-runoff modelling, or applying UKCP18 and CMIP5/6 projections to climate change impact assessments
• Well organised and able to prioritise your own workload
• Logical and pragmatic approach to problem solving, attention to detail and an ambition to innovate
• Excellent communication and written skills
  
  

Desirable:

• Professional consultancy experience in water resources and hydrology
• Post graduate level qualification in hydrology, water resources management or other related discipline.
• Understanding of the regulatory requirements as regards the UK water resources management planning process is preferred.
• Experience in rainfall-runoff modelling packages such as GR6J, Catchmod or PDM will be an advantage.
• Experience in water systems modelling, such as Aquator, WEAP or Pywr will be an advantage.
• Coding/statistical techniques will be an advantage.

Overview Of The Role
The Division is entering a period of significant growth aligned with AMP8 (2025–2030) investment needs. We are proud of our strong industry reputation, which is enabling us to expand our services and support a growing client base. To help meet this increasing demand, we are seeking Senior Electrical & Control Engineers to join our multidisciplinary water utilities team.

We work on a vast range of design projects covering, for example:

• Water treatment
• Water distribution and storage
• Wastewater networks & treatments
• Industrial process water
• Desalination
• Irrigation
• Hydropower

We cover all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning to handover. Provide specialist technical support to colleagues across our global business, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work.

Our clients include many UK water utility companies, Uisce Éireann, and many other governmental organisations and private companies in the UK, Ireland and overseas.

You will undertake a wide range of Electrical & control tasks, typically including:

• Electrical power distribution design (LV and HV)
• Control system design
• Design and specification of communications networks and SCADA
• Specifying renewable and back-up generation systems
• Developing plant layouts
• Cabling and installation design
• Instrumentation selection
• Writing system control strategies
• Factory and site acceptance tests of equipment
• Providing mentoring to other electrical engineers, you will be responsible for developing and checking designs and providing technical direction to projects
• Using your experience and expertise you will ensure that designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards
• You will ensure the integration of the electrical & control design with that of other disciplines
