Position Overview
The Instituto de Fisica Corpuscular (IFIC) at the University of Valencia invites applications for a 3+1 year PhD position in Theoretical Particle Physics, starting in fall ****.
This position is funded by the "La Caixa" Foundation through the Junior Leader Fellowship program (ID *********) awarded to Dr. Luca Mantani. The PhD student will be jointly supervised by Dr. Luca Mantani and Prof. Veronica Sanz.
Project Description
The successful candidate will join the project "Empowering precision for New Physics discovery at the LHC". The project searches for new fundamental particles and interactions beyond our current best theory of particle physics by seeking subtle deviations from Standard Model predictions in precision measurements at the Large Hadron Collider.
The research develops state-of-the-art theoretical predictions and global analyses within the Standard Model Effective Field Theory framework, combining modern machine learning and advanced statistical methods to maximise our chances of an indirect discovery.
The appointed student will be based at IFIC, a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence located in Valencia, Spain. The institute hosts staff working across all areas of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, leading to a vibrant research environment in High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics, Cosmology, and Astrophysics.
Ideal Candidate
A Bachelor's degree in Physics and a Master's degree in theoretical or experimental particle physics;
A solid background in quantum field theory and particle physics phenomenology;
Some programming experience, ideally in Python. No advanced software engineering skills are required, but a willingness to develop computational skills is essential;
Basic familiarity with statistical methods and data analysis;
Prior exposure to machine learning techniques will be considered a plus, but is not required.
Application Materials
A curriculum vitae (CV);
Academic transcripts (Bachelor's and Master's);
A brief motivation letter describing research interests and relevant experience;
One recommendation letter.
Applications
Interested candidates should submit the following materials before the 4th of May ****. Applications should be sent by email to Dr. Luca Mantani at ******. Informal enquiries are also welcome.
