Job Description
GAC Spain delivers a wide range of ship agency services, including husbandry, bunker fuels, customs clearance, crew change support and ship spares logistics, to keep your vessels and cargo moving across Spain. We apply the highest standard of customer service to everything we do and aim to be industry leaders across all the sectors we serve.
We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to support our finance department by carrying out daily accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with reporting and administrative duties. This role is essential in ensuring smooth financial operations and timely processing of transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable
- Process supplier invoices and credit notes
- Reconcile supplier statements
- Prepare and process weekly/monthly payment runs
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and liaise with suppliers
- Accounts Receivable
- Issue customer invoices and credit notes
- Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts
- Allocate customer payments and maintain accurate debtor records
- General Ledger & Banking
- Assist with bank reconciliations
- Post journal entries as instructed by the Finance Manager
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities
- Maintain accurate and organised financial documentation
- Administrative Support
- Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and documentation
- Assist with audits by preparing required documentation
- Support the wider finance team with ad-hoc tasks
Job requirements
Skills & Competencies
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient in MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Dynamics, QuickBooks)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
- Previous experience in an accounting or finance support role (desirable)
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Proactive and eager to learn
- Reliable, with a strong sense of integrity
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Positive and professional attitude
