This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and require regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment.

The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Legal Directorate (JU) – Legal Corporate Department (CORP) – Corporate, Employment and Litigation Division (CL), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2025)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

The overall objective of the traineeship would be to allow you to gain a first-hand experience in and exposure to the areas of EU law, transparency, general legal questions, civil service law and litigation.

Responsibilities

You would be expected to provide assistance in the daily legal work of the Division, as assigned by the Head of Division, across a number of areas where prior legal knowledge is required. Your daily tasks could include:

  • Undertaking legal research and analysis in relation to EU law as well as rules and regulations applicable to the EIB;
  • Providing legal assistance:
  • in litigation files;
  • in matters related to civil service law;
  • in handling various corporate queries;
  • in matters related to transparency, inquiries of the EIBG complaints mechanism and inquiries of the European Ombudsman;
  • Assisting in the preparation of notes and drafting of documents in the Division’s fields of activities.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree in law, preferably completed by post-graduate studies in European Union Law;
  • Legal training would be an advantage;
  • International experience would be an advantage;
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French and a very good knowledge of the other language, both spoken and written. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
