Mid Software Engineer - Operations Domain
Factorial · Barcelona, ES
React Javascript Python Agile Cloud Coumputing Ruby TypeScript Ruby on Rails Office
We´re looking for a Mid Software Engineer to join one of our cross-functional engineering teams.
Our teams are mission-driven, diverse, and passionate about solving real-world problems for thousands of companies globally. While the domain you´ll work in may vary (e.g., Operations, Talent, Finance, Growth), the expectations, autonomy, and support will be consistent.
The Engineering team at large
At Factorial, we are a team of +150 very talented fullstack developers. We look for smart people who are curious, proactive and have great communication skills.
We are not looking for a long list of skills and technologies. Our stack is Ruby on Rails for the backend and React/React-native for the front end.
If you´re looking for new challenges in a people-first company regardless where you live, keep reading!
What You´ll Do
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to build user-centric, maintainable solutions.
- Develop features across the full stack (frontend/backend).
- Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and team rituals to maintain high engineering standards.
- Take ownership of tasks and deliver independently or in small groups, with growing autonomy.
- Debug production issues and contribute to the stability and performance of the platform.
- Work in agile teams with clear priorities and a shared roadmap.
- Learn continuously and contribute to team knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Contribute to planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
Your Profile
- Experience with at least one modern backend language or framework (e.g., Ruby, Python, Node).
- Good experience with React, JavaScript, or TypeScript on the frontend.
- Ability to collaborate in English (spoken and written) across cross-functional teams.
- A strong sense of ownership and a mindset focused on outcomes, not just delivery : we´re looking for an engineer, not a programmer.
- You´re pragmatic: you know when to ship fast and when to raise the quality bar.
- You´re a team player who thrives in a feedback-driven, transparent culture.
At Factorial we don´t evaluate you by the years of experience you have, we evaluate your knowledge and skills. How? We have a Career Path with a rubric framework where we define what is expected for each experience level and skill. This framework allows you to know at which level you´re right now and what you need to keep growing. As we love transparency, our Career Path includes the salaries for each level and we share it during the first interview to make sure we´re aligned.
For this mid-level position, the annual gross salary is 425000. This includes a base salary of 400000 and a variable pay of up to 25000 annually (paid quarterly), depending on the company´s goals.
Your daily life with us
- You´ll start with a 2 weeks onboarding period, where you will:
- You will be learning about Factorial, our product, our team, our clients
- Pair with each member of the team at least once, to see their current initiatives
- Solve low-stake bug tickets or quick wins
- Commit early and often thanks to our cloud dev environment
- Be fully integrated in the team´s rituals from day 1
You will be a product engineer, taking ownership of big initiatives, and being interested in the outcome, not just the output. About the outcome, you´ll also work with your team members to establish goals and plan a quarterly roadmap, putting special attention to the technical needs of our domain.
You will be involved in customer calls to learn about their pains & needs.
You will review code daily and get feedback on your own code at every pull request, from all team members, including juniors.
You will learn from the entire team, both on technical topics (performance, architecture...) and core skills, in an environment driven by engineering quality. You will also mentor junior team members and help them learn from your experience.
How We Work
We follow an office-first, flexible approach (80%-20%) because we believe the best products are built when people collaborate face-to-face.
We work on-site several days a week in our Barcelona HQ (or Madrid office) to connect, brainstorm, and ship together, while keeping flexibility for deep work and personal balance.

- Save expenses with Cobee and get your salary in advance with Payflow
- TaxDown to simplify your taxes and maximize your savings!
- Healthy life with Gympass and Alan as private health insurance

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Talent Domain at Factorial.
Talent Domain 👾
Our mission is to help companies develop their employees, keeping them engaged and delighted at the same time, helping the company’s teams become the best versions of themselves.
To do this, we provide tools to managers and HR managers in the areas of recruitment, performance, engagement, and trainings. But we know there is space for more! That's why we need talented people to go faster.
The role 📜
As a Senior Engineer at Factorial, you'll be part of a team of 150+ product developers. We look for talented people who are curious, proactive, and have great communication skills. People who are at the forefront of developing tools that help teams become the best versions of themselves.
You'll work in a multicultural, English-speaking environment where your technical acumen, creative problem-solving abilities, and passion for user-centric products will directly contribute to our mission of improving HR processes for SMEs worldwide. It’s your choice to work from home, in our Barcelona offices, or mixing both.
Our stack is Ruby on Rails for the backend and React/React Native for the clients.
But, hey! Don't let unfamiliarity with these specific technologies hold you back! If you're someone eager to learn, you have navigated through diverse technical challenges throughout your career, and have a hunger for building new solutions that help cultivate highly satisfied, productive, employees, then we want to talk to you.
Work ethics
At Factorial, we know that building a great product means building a great team. We value some key principles that help us thrive together.
- Radical (and Passionate) Candor: We're excited about creating great products and advancing our mission. This means being proactive, obsessing about quality, and experimenting. We tell our managers and peers things we think we cannot say, practicing radical candor to drive innovation and improvement.
- Effective Communication: Clear communication, especially in writing, is crucial. We communicate openly, build narratives, and aren't afraid to debate ideas. If we can't explain something clearly, we seek to understand more deeply until we can. And remember, English is our vehicular language, so you need to be comfortable with it!
- Product Vision: We understand our users' needs and actively engage with them. We constantly look for business opportunities, always asking "What can be next for Factorial?"
- Reliability and Accountability: We deliver on our commitments while maintaining high quality. We feel accountable for the culture and make others feel accountable too. When we see something broken, we stand up to fix it, feeling responsible for all of Factorial.
- Problem-Solving: We don't limit ourselves to our nominal job definition. We bring, execute, and later communicate solutions, seeking approval only for decisions that would be hard to reverse.
- Teamwork Ease: We collaborate well, adapt easily, and are open to feedback. We convince or get convinced, asking the same from everyone. If an initiative comes top-down, we debate it until we fully buy-in, then champion it to our teams.
- Fighting Complacency: We challenge the status quo and fight complacency with our whole hearts. We're vocal when something is going wrong, seeing it as an opportunity for a better world.
- Having Fun: While our work is serious, we trust our gut when we have a 10x motivation to try something new. We jump on opportunities for innovation, involving as many people as possible.
You’ll start with a 2 weeks onboarding period, where you will:
- Read a lot: Learn about Factorial, our product, our team, and our clients.
- Learn a lot: Pair with each team member at least once, to understand what they are working on.
- Code a lot: Solve low-stake bug tickets or quick wins.
- Fail a lot: We work with ephemeral development environments with almost zero configuration so you can start coding fast. And failing, going back, retrying… We understand this is part of the path, so, we will encourage you to be brave!
- Talk a lot: Be fully integrated into the team’s rituals from day one.
- You will be a product engineer, taking ownership of big initiatives, and being interested in the outcome, not just the output. About the outcome, you’ll also work with your team members to establish goals and plan a quarterly roadmap, putting special attention to the technical needs of our domain.
- A Senior Engineer at Factorial influences requirements definition and is autonomous in delivering a polished solution that matches those. You participate in the team’s decision through Requests For Comments (RFCs) that you write yourself or read others’.
- You will be involved in customer calls to learn about their pains & needs.
- You will review code daily and get feedback on your code at every pull request, from all team members, including juniors.
- You will learn from the entire team, both on technical topics (performance, architecture…) and core skills, in an environment driven by engineering quality. You will also mentor junior team members and help them learn from your experience.
We care about people and offer many benefits for employees:
- 🤝🏽 High growth, multicultural, and friendly environment.
- 🤓 Continuous training and learning based on your needs.
- 🩺 Alan's private health insurance.
- 🧘🏽♀️ Healthy life with Gympass (Gyms, pools, outdoor classes).
- 💰 Save expenses with Cobee.
- 👩🏽🏫 Language classes with Yolk Academy.
- 💶 Get the most out of your salary with Payflow.
- 🍏 Breakfast in the office and organic fruit.
- 🍱 Nora and Apetit discounts.
- 🐶 Pet Friendly.
If you apply, here’s what to expect:
- A first conversation with our Talent Acquisition Partner. It will be about comparing our expectations and making sure we match on a human level. We will also check our Engineering Rubrics (check them out, they are open!) and the salary in your position.
- A second conversation with the team’s engineering manager. This is about making sure we can work together. Here you will have a conversation about the team, their needs, your profile and how can you complement it. Expect to have a mix of a human and technical conversation.
- A live coding session focused on your technical skills. You’ll be working through a problem in real time, and we’ll be looking at how you approach the solution, how you write and structure your code, and how you reason about trade-offs. It’s not about speed or pressure, it’s about your ability to solve problems thoughtfully and communicate your thinking clearly.
- One last coffee-chat with our CTO, where you can get all the answers about Factorial’s culture, business vision, or anything else that interests you.
- And that’s it! Feel free to request any other conversation you want, with team members or to address specific concerns at any time during the process.
