What does a Senior Machine Learning / AI Engineer do at Busuu?

• Build & scale agentic AI systems: Own the design, development and deployment of production-grade agentic systems that power adaptive learning experiences — from multi-step reasoning pipelines to autonomous feedback loops that respond to learner behaviour in real time.
• LLMs & RAG architectures: Architect and integrate LLM-powered features using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering strategies, and evaluation pipelines. Lead application of these to high-impact use cases such as mistake analysis, content generation, and personalised learning paths.
• Agentic frameworks: Lead the design of multi-agent workflows using frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph. Define agent orchestration patterns, tool use, memory, and state management strategies for production environments, and establish best practices across the team.
• Full ML lifecycle ownership: Collaborate with Data Scientists and Senior ML Engineers to move models from experimentation to production, including feature engineering, training pipelines, online inference, and monitoring. Take ownership of reliability and quality end to end.
• Platform & tooling development: Drive improvements to our ML infrastructure and experiment orchestration tools (e.g. MLFlow, Airflow, SageMaker, Kubernetes), and help make AI development faster and safer across the team.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Data Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and other engineers to embed intelligence into our products, improve experimentation velocity, and drive measurable learning outcomes.
• Research & innovation: Lead research spikes on emerging AI/ML technologies — from graph-based knowledge representations to advanced RAG patterns, fine-tuning strategies, and agentic evaluation frameworks. Shape our evolving AI strategy and contribute to the wider engineering community.
  
  

What we're looking for in a Senior Machine Learning / AI Engineer

• Strong foundations in machine learning, applied AI, and software engineering. You write clean, maintainable Python code, are comfortable designing ML pipelines, and can work across APIs and microservices at scale.
• Proven experience building and deploying agentic AI systems using LangChain and/or LangGraph — including agent orchestration, tool use, and multi-step reasoning pipelines in production environments.
• Deep practical knowledge of LLMs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, HuggingFace) and hands-on experience with prompt engineering, vector stores, and RAG architectures. You know how to evaluate and iterate on these systems rigorously.
• Proficiency in building data and training pipelines using tools like SQL, Airflow, or AWS services (S3, SageMaker, Lambda).
• Proven track record deploying ML or AI systems to production, especially around NLP, personalisation, or recommendation. A/B testing and impact evaluation experience is a strong plus.
• Graph-based data structures or graph databases (e.g. Neo4j, NetworkX) is a strong plus.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, cross-functional team. You take ownership, iterate fast, and make others around you better.
• Strong analytical thinking and genuine curiosity about the user experience and pedagogical impact of AI solutions.
• Experience in EdTech, adaptive learning, or consumer personalisation is a big plus, not a requirement.

Buscamos un/a GenAI Engineer (Mid-Level) para acelerar la adopción de la GenAI en nuestro portfolio de productos de software de gestión empresarial. Te incorporarás a la organización de Tecnología (R&D) y trabajarás en estrecha colaboración tanto con el equipo internacional de AI Platform como con múltiples equipos de producto e ingeniería, con un objetivo claro: transformar oportunidades de AI en capacidades reales, listas para producción.

No buscamos únicamente una persona que ejecute. Buscamos a alguien con mentalidad de producto, que entienda cómo llevar la GenAI a producción de forma escalable, que construya soluciones reutilizables y agnósticas a la tecnología, y que se sienta cómodo trabajando de forma transversal con varios equipos de ingeniería a la vez.

Qué harás

• Diseñar e implementar funcionalidades de producto basadas en AI en múltiples aplicaciones de negocio.

Your Tasks

Customer Order Services (COS) is the strategic backbone for customer order data and processing at MediaMarktSaturn. It consolidates order information, standardizes access through a common API model, and orchestrates fine-grained workflows that power the end-to-end online order journey. Positioned as the main communication layer, COS connects the Order Management Systems (OMS) with major corporate applications — such as SAP Retail, Checkout, Payment systems, Invoicing applications, and Pick-and-Pack solutions — ensuring consistent, real-time order processing across the enterprise.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Design, implement, and evolve COS REST APIs and event schemas (OpenAPI, API Gateway), enabling contract-first integrations and decoupling consumers from Order Management platform.
• Develop and orchestrate event-driven order workflows with Kafka/Kafka Streams and Temporal (basket-to-order, payment/checkout, digital activation, fulfillment, transport management), ensuring reliability, idem-potency, and auditability.
• Build and maintain data persistence and propagation: model order data in Protobuf, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, drive real-time synchronization to corporate systems, and support analytics via Pub/Sub to BigQuery with strong data quality and PII safeguards.
• Operate the platform on GCP/Kubernetes using GitOps (Flux): monitor and troubleshoot production, optimize performance and scalability, manage incidents, and continually improve SLAs, security, and resilience.
  
  

Your Profile

• Strong experience building event-driven, distributed systems
• Proficiency in Kotlin on the JVM; solid Java skills; familiarity with Python or TypeScript is a plus.
• Proven track record designing contract-first RESTful APIs with OpenAPI, including versioning, error models, and API gateway policies (e.g., Kong/Apigee).
• Practical experience with relational and noSQL databases (like MongoDB and PostgreSQL), schema design, transactions, performance tuning in high-throughput environments.
• Experience in cloud-native operations, e.g. on GCP with Kubernetes and Terraform; GitOps (Flux), CI/CD, observability (logging, metrics, tracing), and production troubleshooting.
• Integration expertise using synchronous and asynchronous patterns (Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, etc.) across enterprise systems
• Strong focus on reliability, security, and compliance for customer order data (SLAs, auditability, PII/GDPR), with clear communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
