Research Scientists in Artificial Intelligence applied to cryo electron tomography (Predoc/Postdoc)Join the Instituto Biofisika (IBF), a collaborative research centre of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), located at the Leioa Campus.
We focus on biophysics research and seek research scientists at predoctoral and postdoctoral levels to join the Laboratory for Numerical Methods of Cryo Electron Tomography, led by Dr. Daniel Castaño Díez.
The group develops computational methods for analyzing 3D cellular images, primarily through Dynamo software (>), funded by the Human Frontiers Science Program.
The project aims to extend cryoET processing tools with deep learning techniques for identifying small, flexible proteins in their natural environment.
Responsibilities include developing new methodologies, maintaining software, and analyzing cryoET datasets from collaborators.
Candidates should hold degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields, with a strong background in Matlab and an interest in Life Sciences.
Essential Qualifications Include
Experience in Deep Learning or AI methodsBackground in numerical mathematics, optimization, and heuristic methodsProficiency in MATLAB, Python, C++, and/or CUDADesirable qualifications include experience in Electron and Light Microscopy image processing and Molecular Dynamics simulations.
Start date is flexible, aiming for Fall 2025, with funding secured until August 2029.
Salaries range from €27,000-€42,000 for BSc/MSc and €38,000-€53,000 for PhD candidates, aligned with experience.

Formació i experiència

- Més de 5 anys d’experiència professional com a bioinformàtic/a, amb coneixements amplis en tecnologies de seqüenciació (Illumina MiSeq, PacBio) i en la integració de dades multiòmiques.
- Experiència prèvia com a data scientist en el desenvolupament, validació i implementació d’algorismes de machine learning en l’àmbit biomèdic.
- Experiència en lideratge i gestió d’equips multidisciplinaris.
- Experiència en la tutorització d’estudiants/mentoring o en rols similars de supervisió acadèmica/professional (valorable PhD, encara que no imprescindible si hi ha experiència equivalent).
- Estades internacionals en formació o activitat professional (valorat positivament).
- Domini de llenguatges de programació com Python (imprescindible), i valorats R, Matlab, C++, Java.
- Coneixements de SQL per a la gestió de bases de dades.
- Experiència o coneixements en sistemes cloud (AWS, Azure).
- Coneixements d’estàndards de dades clíniques (OMOP, FHIR) i experiència en l’estructuració de dades hospitalàries (valorat positivament).
- Coneixements d’estadística avançada i anàlisi de dades (models de supervivència, models predictius, etc.).

In the frame of the new programmes, Electromagnetic testing capabilities will be expanded to cope with the increasing testing and measurement requirements. The selected candidate will be part of a dynamic and multidisciplinar team and will work on challenging new projects. He/she will contribute to the growth of the Electromagnetic testing capabilities and will provide vauable data for the design of the products as well as for the verification process.
Considering the transversal nature of the discipline, the jobholder will maintain close cooperation and with many different areas of the company to understand the tenchnical challenges and try to find trade-offs when needed.
Required competences and skills:
- Strong background in Electromagnetism theory.
- Practical experience on EMC tests, RF measurements and relevant instrumentation.
- Electromagnetic properties of materials.
- Programming of tools/scripts (at least Python and MATLAB)
- Knowledge on signal processing
- Post-processing tools and data processing algorithm development
- Electromagnetic simulation and modelling is a plus.

Job Description:
A vacancy for a junior Aerodynamics Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Getafe .
The successful applicant will join the team responsible for the aerodynamic development and optimisation of Airbus Defence & Space aircraft, having the opportunity to participate in diverse activities as external shape aerodynamic design, generation of complex and comprehensive aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads in steady and unsteady mode, safe separation analysis and participate in experimental wind tunnel test campaigns; all of them carried out in the multidisciplinary environment of Flight Physics and in collaboration with specialists of the other international partners involved.
Tasks & Accountabilities
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Design air vehicle external shapes and provide comprehensive aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads in steady and unsteady mode.
- Ensure that optimised aerodynamic solutions and data are delivered to customers on TCQ (time, cost, quality).
- Answer to aerodynamics program specification by developing & maintaining technologies, methods and tools and skills, knowledge and competencies relative to the Aerodynamics disciplines and all support activities or expertise required to meet the Programmes overall design and major components or systems integration needs throughout their life cycles.
- Contribute to the achievement of all vehicle projects aerodynamic and flight performance requirements within prescribed time, cost and quality objectives.
- Develop expertise in the appropriate use of numerical and experimental aerodynamic prediction tools.
- Acquire and develop aerodynamic technologies in a manner consistent with the Company Strategy.
- Link with external research community in the field of Aerodynamics and multi-disciplinary air vehicle design and optimisation.
- Link with all disciplines relevant for physics of flight, such as structures, loads, stability & control, mass properties, etc.
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Educated to Master’s degree level in Aerospace Engineering (PhD level in Aerospace Engineering will be valuable).
- Experience in meshing and numerical aerodynamic prediction tools will be valuable.
- Experience in generation aerodynamic databases from experimental and CFD data will be valuable.
- Experience in CAD tools will be valuable.
- Knowledge and experience in wind tunnel test will be valuable.
- Knowledge and experience in safe separation will be valuable.
- Knowledge and experience in Python and Matlab will be valuable.
- English advanced
- German and/or French will be valuable

A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree are required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields, with a specialization in Fluid Dynamics or a related area.
Independent and proactive working style.
Experience with sensor setup, calibration and real-time digital signal recording.
Strong skills in practical lab testing and data analysis.
Hands-on experience in experimental setups and system assembly.
Knowledge and experience on the use of CFD software (ANSYS, OpenFoam, etc.).
Experience in programming and performing advanced AI statistical modelling with Matlab, Phyton, R, etc.
Preferred, but not required, understanding of hemodynamics or non-Newtonian fluids.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of biomedical engineering, computational modelling, and experimental research, contributing to life-saving neonatal technologies. The candidate will need to comply with pre-requisites to apply for the doctoral thesis in the fields covered by the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP).
Important
Candidates must meet the following requirements to apply for the STEP technologies (FI-STEP) grant:
- Have the nationality of a member state of the European Union.
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification and provide proof of a minimum average grade in their academic record equal to or higher than 6.50 (on a scale from 0 to 10). This grade must be calculated according to the criteria specified in Royal Decree 1125/2003, of September 5, which establishes the European credit system and the grading system for official university degrees valid throughout the national territory.

For the processing, the academic records of the bachelor's and master's degrees (with the year of completion) and the average grade will be mandatory.
- Have completed studies leading to a PhD in accordance with Article 21 of Law 14/2011, of June 1, on Science, Technology, and Innovation, between January 1, 2022, and the starting date of the contract covered by this grant.
- Permanent contract of 37.5 hours per week.
- Work modality: On-site with the option for remote work one day per week.
