Your role & work environment


We are looking for a talented Non‑Financial Risks Specialist to join one of our Business Tribes, where you will play a key role ensuring that our products, journeys and processes are safe, compliant and resilient—while supporting the Tribe in delivering value to customers with speed and quality.


Unlike traditional risk roles, this position sits within the business, fully integrated in the Tribe. You will work side‑by‑side with Product Owners, data, engineering, operations and journey teams, translating Non‑Financial Risk requirements into clear, actionable business expectations.


You will also act as the main interface with the Business Control Office, ensuring alignment with their methodologies and standards across risk identification, control execution, testing, issue management, regulatory implementation, operational resilience and Third-Party Management.


This role is ideal for someone with a strong business mindset who is passionate about enabling safe growth, improving processes and bringing clarity and structure to a dynamic environment.


Your key responsibilities

As a Non‑Financial Risks Specialist within Business, you will:


1. Own NFR & Controls execution within the Tribe

  • Ensure end‑to‑end Non‑Financial Risk and control activities are executed consistently and effectively across squads.
  • Support risk and control identification, control design, performance, monitoring and testing.
  • Ensure alignment with ING policies, control standards and regulatory requirements.

2. Translate NFR requirements into business‑ready actions

  • Convert regulatory or policy changes into actionable guidance the Tribe can implement.
  • Provide clarity on ownership, responsibilities and expectations for each squad.
  • Support prioritisation of NFR activities based on impact and risk level.

3. Strengthen operational resilience

  • Coordinate key processes such as issue management, remediation tracking, Third and Intragroup Party Management (TIPM), Operational Resilience and Business Continuity.
  • Anticipate potential risks or gaps and escalate proactively when needed.

4. Partner with Business Control Office & Risk functions

  • Act as the entry point for 1LoD, 2LoD and 3LoD stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistent reporting and communication around risks, controls, issues and dependencies.
  • Co‑plan annual NFR activities with the Business Control Partner.

5. Drive a strong risk‑aware culture

  • Promote awareness across squads, fostering a culture of responsible delivery.
  • Provide feedback, coaching and support to improve NFR maturity.
  • Encourage simplicity, focus and continuous improvement.


What are we looking for?

You will be great fit if you bring:

  • Solid experience in Non‑Financial Risk, internal control, audit, compliance, operations or business excellence.
  • Ability to understand business needs and translate risk requirements into clear actions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills, especially in complex environments.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Autonomy, proactivity and a continuous‑improvement mindset.
  • Experience in agile organisations or multidisciplinary teams is a plus.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.


This role is perfect for someone coming from Risk but wanting to work closer to the business and delivery, or for someone from Business wanting to specialise in NFR and elevate the Tribe’s control environment.
