Project Planner/Scheduler
Company Overview:
Fortivum is a Dublin-based, client-side engineering consultancy specialising in the delivery of hyperscale and mission-critical data centre projects across Europe.
We provide Project Management, Construction Management, Cost Management and Design services, supporting clients through the full project lifecycle. Our teams work across major EMEA data centre programmes, helping to manage programme, cost, quality, technical delivery and stakeholder coordination.
We are seeking an experienced Project Scheduler to join a major data centre project team based full-time in Zaragoza, Spain.
Role Overview
The Project Scheduler will be responsible for developing, maintaining and reporting on detailed project programmes for a large-scale data centre project.
Working closely with the Project Management, Construction Management, Design, Cost and contractor teams, the role will provide clear visibility of programme performance, key milestones, critical-path activities, risks and recovery actions.
This is a site-based role in Zaragoza and requires someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment, managing multiple interfaces and challenging programme assumptions where required.
Key Responsibilities:
Programme Development and Management
- Develop, maintain and update detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Build integrated programmes covering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, testing and handover.
- Establish programme logic, sequencing, milestones, dependencies and critical-path activities.
- Coordinate programme inputs from contractors, consultants, suppliers and internal project teams.
- Review contractor programmes for completeness, logic, duration assumptions and alignment with project requirements.
- Track progress against approved baseline programmes and identify variances.
Programme Reporting and Analysis
- Produce weekly and monthly programme reports for project leadership and client stakeholders.
- Provide clear reporting on progress, critical path, float, milestones, delays, risks and recovery actions.
- Carry out schedule analysis, including critical-path analysis, look-ahead planning and delay-impact assessment.
- Develop programme dashboards, progress trackers and visual reports.
- Support earned-value and progress-measurement reporting where required.
- Maintain accurate programme records and version control.
Project Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Design Managers, Cost Managers and contractor planning teams.
- Coordinate programme interfaces between civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and commissioning workstreams.
- Support planning for long-lead equipment, procurement activities, site logistics, energisation and phased handover.
- Attend project meetings, planning workshops and progress reviews.
- Challenge programme assumptions and identify opportunities to improve sequencing, efficiency and delivery certainty.
Risk, Change and Recovery Planning
- Identify programme risks, constraints and potential delays at an early stage.
- Support the development of mitigation and recovery programmes.
- Assess the programme impact of design changes, scope changes, procurement issues and construction delays.
- Maintain schedule-risk registers and support risk-management workshops.
- Assist with delay analysis, extension-of-time assessments and claims support where required.
Systems and Documentation
- Maintain schedules and supporting documentation within project controls and common-data environments.
- Ensure accurate programme updates, reporting records and document control.
- Support the continual improvement of planning and project-controls processes across Fortivum’s project portfolio.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Proven experience as a Project Scheduler, Planner or Project Controls Engineer on large-scale construction or engineering projects.
- Experience working on complex, fast-paced projects such as data centres, pharmaceutical, industrial, energy, infrastructure or major commercial developments.
- Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6; Microsoft Project experience is also beneficial.
- Experience developing and managing detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning schedules.
- Strong understanding of critical-path methodology, programme logic, sequencing and delay analysis.
- Experience reviewing contractor programmes and coordinating programme inputs across multiple stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, reporting and communication skills.
- Comfortable working full-time on site in Zaragoza, Spain.
Desirable
- Data centre, mission-critical or high-tech construction experience.
- Experience working in a client-side, consultancy or owner’s-representative environment.
- Experience with schedule-risk analysis, earned value management and delay/claims support.
- Knowledge of commissioning, energisation and phased handover planning.
- Spanish language skills.
- Degree or qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
