About the role

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will take ownership of significant cross-domain initiatives, influence architectural direction, and guide engineering teams through complex technical challenges. You will partner closely with Senior Engineering Managers (SEMs), architects, and cross-functional leads to plan and deliver large, strategic programs.

You will also serve as a technical role model-driving high-quality engineering practices, ensuring robust delivery forecasting, and elevating the technical maturity of your domain.

Our Technology Stack

Our cloud-native, multi-tenant SaaS platform runs on AWS. We use Kotlin, Java, SpringBoot, Docker, Kubernetes, Apache Kafka, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL on the backend, and ReactJS and TypeScript on the frontend. Our continuous delivery pipeline leverages GitLab. We are using Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Kibana and Grafana as our logging and monitoring stack.

Key Responsibilities:
- Drive and deliver multi-quarter, cross-domain initiatives and support SEMs with planning, estimation accuracy, and technical alignment.
- Lead technical grooming for complex, cross-domain features and guide story preparation for small to medium domain work.
- Shape and communicate technical proposals (RFCs) and guide them through CTO-level decision-making.
- Act as a domain expert, providing guidance on architectural decisions and integration impacts.
- Independently design and develop high-quality features while continuously improving domain quality (logging, error handling, documentation, API clarity).
- Maintain strong engineering discipline by following DoR/DoD, avoiding unaligned refactoring, and ensuring clear, maintainable documentation.
- Achieve high delivery predictability (90-100% estimation accuracy) and effectively manage unplanned work within planned capacity.
- Mentor and support engineers across teams, elevating technical capabilities and cross-domain collaboration.

For Spain, the base salary range for this position is between EUR 60,000 and EUR 100,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:

Purpose of the role:

As a Frontend Engineer on the Drive team, you will play a crucial role in developing Proton Drive. We expect you to be customer-centric, continuously learning, passionate about technology and usability. You are an adept at turning technical complexities into seamless user experiences. Effective teamwork, collaboration with Product, Design, APIs, and your team, and data-driven decision-making are essential aspects of this role.

What you will do:

Develop new features: Developing, deploying and supporting high-quality user experiences within Proton Drive, including feature development and implementation.
Collaboration: Work closely with backend, product owners, designers, QA, and other engineers to take initiatives from ideation to completion.
Code review and optimization: Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure code quality, maintainability, and performance optimization.
Testing: Develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies, including unit tests and integration tests, to ensure the reliability of core libraries.

Purpose of the role: 

Proton continues to grow rapidly as increasing numbers of people across the globe seek greater privacy controls of their information online. To accelerate our growth, we are seeking a senior leader to drive engineering for one of our many existing or upcoming Products.

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to one of our existing or upcoming Products. This role involves setting and executing technical strategy, team management, and working closely with your senior product managers counterparts, to ensure high-velocity delivery of new products.

As a key member of the engineering leadership team, you will shape the company’s technical strategy and contribute to Proton’s mission of creating a privacy-centric internet. Each product will have its unique challenges and areas of focus, nevertheless we require all Engineering Directors for our Products to have a demonstrated track record of building and scaling customer facing applications, in either a B2C or B2B context, for millions of users, across multiple platforms (mobile, desktop, backend systems and platforms).

Perfil

Buscamos un/a React Frontend Developer con especial interés en maquetación y UI, para incorporarse a nuestro equipo de Producción Digital, trabajando para una marca internacional líder en un entorno colaborativo y con proyectos reales en producción.

Formarás parte de un equipo multidisciplinar de más de 20 personas, desarrollando interfaces dentro de un ecosistema global basado en Micro Frontends / Feature Apps.

Responsabilidades

Desarrollo de interfaces en React, con foco en maquetación y detalle visual.
Construcción de componentes reutilizables usando Styled Components o soluciones similares.
Traducción de diseños (Figma u otros) a código frontend de calidad.
Trabajo con sistemas de diseño y librerías de componentes.
Integración del frontend con APIs existentes.
Mantenimiento y evolución de aplicaciones en producción.
Colaboración estrecha con UX/UI, frontend senior y producto.

Requisitos

Formación base en desarrollo frontend con React (bootcamp, grado, máster o similar).
Buen conocimiento de HTML, CSS y JavaScript.
Interés claro por la maquetación, el detalle visual y la UI.
Ganas de aprender, crecer y trabajar en equipo.
No es necesaria experiencia profesional previa en proyectos grandes.
