At Sandoz, our goal is not just to increase access, but to do so in a sustainable and responsible way:
- finding the right balance between guaranteed quality, reliable supply and appropriate pricing. Our aim is to excel at all three, ensuring we never compromise on quality.
- to protect our environment (carbon footprint, natural resources), as well as to champion diversity, equity and inclusion across our company and beyond
This role can be based in our offices in Madrid, Prague or Ljubljana.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Global Head of Procurement ESG and collaborating closely with the Global Sustainability Director and key members across Global Procurement, your responsibilities will include:
Strategic ESG Programme formulation & Delivery
- Support the design and implementation of a comprehensive supplier engagement strategy, primarily focusing on top-emitting suppliers, ensuring strong alignment with Sandoz’ Science-Based Targets and evolving ESG priorities such as nature, biodiversity, water, and waste.
- Support the Joint Business Development Plan (JBDP) program with our top strategic suppliers, building critical supplier capabilities and partnering on innovative decarbonization and broader sustainability initiatives.
- Partner with direct materials category teams (APIs, Excipients, Finished Dose Format) to effectively incorporate ESG metrics and cutting-edge initiatives for robust category plans.
- Lead research and implement "win-win" decarbonization initiatives within indirect procurement, focusing on short and long-term CO2 and cost reductions (e.g., sustainable travel, optimised printing, global fleet electrification)
- Build procurement capability through developing and delivering targeted education and upskilling programs on key ESG topics and their applicability to procurement work (e.g., targets, metrics, and best practices).
- Lead supplier ESG events and develop comprehensive training materials/tools to enhance supplier capabilities across the spectrum of ESG topics, leveraging existing engagement channels effectively.
- Engage with industry forums (e.g., PSCI) to benchmark best practices and identify opportunities for collective engagement efficiencies, reflecting emerging industry standards and stakeholder expectations.
- Contribute to the integration of ESG principles comprehensively across the entire procurement lifecycle, from initial needs identification through to contract close-out. This includes embedding ESG criteria within Request for Proposals (RFPs), negotiating robust contract clauses, and optimizing procurement-to-pay (P2P) processes to reflect our sustainability commitments.
- Stay current and formulate proactive strategies for approaching the requirements of emerging and evolving ESG regulations, including but not limited to EUDR, CSRD, CSDDD, Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz, EU Taxonomy, Modern Slavery Acts (e.g., UK, Australia), California Supply Chain Transparency Act, and new packaging or waste regulations.
- Serve as a key point of contact for the Procurement ESG team on aligned topics such as audit and reporting, collaborating closely with HSE, Legal, Group Sustainability, and Access teams.
- Define and track supplier ESG KPIs across environmental, social, and governance dimensions, reporting on internal progress and contributing to external disclosures.
- Support the Procurement ESG team in identifying and implementing reporting technologies for supplier data sharing and performance monitoring, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide sustainability tech programs and broader industry approaches.
- Support access-focused workstreams by translating customer requirements into clear expectations and actionable requirements for the supply chain, procurement processes, and our suppliers, ensuring our ethical and sustainable commitments are met end-to-end.
- You are strategic, proactive, results-oriented, collaborative, adaptable, passionate about sustainability.
- Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related field.
