Offer Description The PhD student will perform research in developing a new device, the Photovoltaic & Radiative Collector and Emitter (PV-RCE), to perform its energetic study, as well as to explore a wide range of possible applications. The PV-RCE is capable of producing either renewable heat, renewable cold or renewable electricity during daytime (using either Solar Collection, Daytime Radiative Cooling, or Photovoltaics), and to produce renewable cold during night-time (using Night-time Radiative Cooling), thus being able to adapt its heat, cold, and electricity production vectors to different demand profiles from buildings and industries. The PV-RCE allows a reduction in the non-renewable primary energy consumption and in the installed power of conventional back-up systems. The objective will be to prove the viability of the equipment and determine its potential to produce cold, heat, and electricity to be implemented in both buildings and industry. The behaviour of the new equipment will be experimentally tested and characterised, and validated numerical models will be developed to simulate the equipment. By means of these models, the effect of different improvements and optimisations in both the equipment and the whole system will be analysed. The capacity of the system to adapt to the cold, heat, and electricity requirements for different applications will be determined. Finally, the technical, economic, and life cycle viability of the system will be studied.
