ABOUT THE JOB
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to oversee the financial management
of academic revenue and costs within our business school. The ideal candidate will possess a strong
background in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, ideally coupled with a deep
understanding of academic operations within a higher education setting. The Financial Controller will play a
pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of academic programs, optimizing revenue
streams, and effectively managing costs.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Be the financial expert & business partner, the “financial data translator” for the academic
- departments
- Drive financial analysis of the academic departments and performance (monthly reporting) - talking
- to stakeholders across the various campuses, and present to senior management
- Proactively investigate and provide in depth analysis of variances to budgets to both business and
- finance management
- Collaborate with academic departments and administrative units to develop annual budgets aligned
- with strategic objectives and operational requirements, challenging their assumptions.
- Monitor budget performance throughout the fiscal year, conducting regular reviews and
- implementing corrective actions as necessary to ensure adherence to budgetary targets.
- Collaborate closely with academic leadership, department heads, and other stakeholders to align
- financial goals with academic objectives and priorities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to academic leaders, providing financial guidance and support to facilitate
- informed decision-making.
- Recommends solutions for day-to-day challenges and assists with monthly closing activities
- Develop, enhance, and implement models to improve the accuracy of financial reporting and
- improve decision-making processes suitable for the fast-paced environment
- Implement cost control measures to optimize the utilization of resources while maintaining the
- quality and integrity of academic programs.
- Monitor and analyse expenditure patterns, identifying areas for cost savings and efficiency
- improvements without compromising educational standards.
Process Improvement & Transformation
- Develop a set of KPIs to track the financial and operational performance of the academic departments
- (professor costs: group size, hours taught, ratio by student, profitability analysis, etc.)
- Support a wide variety of transformation projects and initiatives
- Develop financial and related operational policies and procedures, ensure their implementation and monitor compliance
- Promote process standardization, improvement, digitalization and automation
- Drive process improvement and policy development initiatives
- Leverage technology in our day-to-day routines and reengineer dashboards and reports
Internal Audit
- Perform random checks on academic-related expenses
- Other special duties as assigned
- Reporting to the FP&A Manager
ABOUT YOU
- Master degree in relevant business field and equivalent prior work experience and training
- Experience in audit (Big 4) recommended
- Organized and detailed oriented
- Fluent in English – French and/or Spanish knowledges are a plus
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, reporting, etc.)
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of Power BI is a plus
- Excellent communication skills with all hierarchy levels
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and act as change agent
- Proactively keep manager informed of business actions and issues
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
- Some travels intercampus can be requested (Geneva, Munich, Paris)
