Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)
Wave Group · Barcelona, ES
. React Python REST SaaS DevOps Office
💻 Job Title: Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) x3
💰 Salary: ideally up to €90k (flex for strong candidates)
+ up to 35% bonus (~20% standard, rest based on performance)
📈 + generous early-stage equity
📍 Location: Madrid or Barcelona (1-2 office days/week)
🚀 Company: autonomous AI agents for enterprise clients
👥 Team: ~30
💸 Funding: ~$25m (Series A)
About the company
This rapidly scaling start-up is building an AI-native platform that lets enterprise clients run high-volume operations through autonomous, conversational agents — voice, chat and messaging, deployed across dozens of countries in over 60 languages, for some of the largest employers in the world.
The company's core technical challenge is multi-agent orchestration that stays rock-solid at scale — reliable, secure and observable whether it's deployed for a healthcare provider in the US or a retailer in Latin America.
Founded by an experienced team with two prior successful exits, backed by a top-tier European VC, and already trusted by household-name enterprise customers.
About the role
You'll be the technical bridge between the company and enterprise customers in your market — understanding their workflows, configuring and extending the AI systems to fit, and staying accountable for real production outcomes, not just a go-live.
This is a heavily hands-on role: most of your time is spent building and deploying (~70%), with the client-facing side being ~30%. You'll turn what you learn in the field into reusable modules and playbooks that speed up every deployment after yours.
✅ Must have requirements:
- Professional fluency in English (plus Spanish, Italian and/or German)
- Direct customer-facing experience (FDE, field engineering, consulting or solutions roles)
- Strong foundation in Python, FastAPI
- Experience with LLMs & Agentic AI in production
- Comfortable moving between high-level problem definition and hands-on debugging
- Startup pace and mentality - high energy, ownership, proactiveness, hunger to innovate and succeed, comfortable operating with ambiguity
👍 Bonus points for:
- Full-cycle ownership: discovery → architecture → build → deploy → iterate on real production systems
- Experience with AI Voice Agents / Conversational AI
- Full-Stack & DevOps experience: React preferred; CI/CD; AWS/GCP/Azure
- Additional fluency in French or Portuguese
- FDE/Solution engineering experience specifically on agentic AI / LLM-based products, not just traditional SaaS

You'll build, operate and continuously improve the reliability of the agentic AI systems running in production for enterprise clients — focused on how agents behave, decide, fail, recover and scale under real operational load, not just on shipping new features.
You'll own the observability and evaluation layer that keeps autonomous agents trustworthy at scale — tracing, logging, cost tracking across model calls, regression testing through prompt and model changes, and alerting on failures, hallucinations and degraded performance before customers ever see them.
You'll also work end-to-end across the stack: production-grade async Python services, LLM/RAG pipelines, and the conversational voice layer where relevant — STT/TTS, telephony, real-time latency.
✅ Must have requirements (most of the below):
- Professional fluency in English (and ideally Spanish)
- Strong Python backend engineering — async programming, high-throughput/message-queue systems (Celery + Redis or equivalent), production-grade service design
- Solid LLM/RAG fundamentals — prompt engineering, chaining, caching strategies, vector databases, model selection trade-offs
- Experience building evaluation pipelines for non-deterministic systems — accuracy/consistency testing, regression testing across prompt and model changes, synthetic test data generation
- Production observability instincts — tracing, logging, metrics, alerting on failures and degraded performance, cost tracking and optimisation across model calls
- Comfortable debugging complex, multi-step, non-deterministic agent behaviour in live production systems
- Cloud deployment and containerisation experience (AWS/GCP, Docker)
- Git, testing, CI/CD, code review — clean, testable, well-documented code as standard practice
- Startup pace and mentality - high energy, ownership, proactiveness, hunger to innovate and succeed, comfortable operating with ambiguity
👍 Bonus points for:
- Conversational/voice AI experience — STT/TTS pipelines, turn-taking, telephony integration (e.g. Twilio), latency-sensitive real-time systems
- Frontend experience (ideally React)
- Experience building enterprise or B2B products
- Model fine-tuning or model-selection/cost-optimisation experience

Founded by an experienced team with two prior successful exits, backed by a top-tier European VC, and already trusted by household-name enterprise customers.
About the role
You'll sit between Legal, Engineering and Security — tracking regulatory requirements across EMEA, US, LATAM and APAC and translating them into concrete technical work, so the company's agentic systems stay compliant, auditable and trustworthy as it scales.
You'll advise Engineering on the compliance features that actually matter — monitoring, logging, audit trails, human oversight, risk classification — and design and maintain the compliance dashboards and metrics (including human-in-the-loop tracking) that give Legal, Security and leadership a clear view of AI risk.
You'll also run AI risk and impact assessments aligned to ISO/IEC 42001 and EU AI Act classifications, own technical GDPR compliance (plus equivalent regimes like CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, PIPL) — data mapping, DPIA support, privacy-by-design — and act as the technical point of contact for enterprise clients on responsible AI: questionnaires, due-diligence workshops, compliance reporting.
✅ Must have requirements:
- Professional fluency in English and Spanish
- Strong working knowledge of the EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF and equivalent regional frameworks — enough to turn Legal's interpretations into concrete technical requirements
- Hands-on engineering background — architecture, code, data flows, model behavior — with the judgment to know when to escalate ambiguous cases to Legal
- Experience advising engineering teams on compliance features: monitoring, logging, audit trails, human oversight, risk classification
- Track record designing and maintaining compliance dashboards/metrics — defining data sources, logic and known limitations
- Working technical knowledge of GDPR (and equivalent regimes — CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, PIPL): data mapping, DPIA support, privacy-by-design
- Comfortable running AI risk/impact assessments and maintaining system documentation aligned with ISO/IEC 42001 and EU AI Act classifications
- Client-facing experience — responsible AI questionnaires, due-diligence workshops, compliance reporting
- Startup pace and mentality - high energy, ownership, proactiveness, hunger to innovate and succeed, comfortable operating with ambiguity
👍 Bonus points for:
- Additional fluency in French, Portuguese or Italian
- Experience monitoring the regulatory landscape across multiple regions (EMEA, US, LATAM, APAC) and flagging business/platform impact early
- Prior in-house AI governance role at an AI-native or agentic-AI company, rather than pure consulting/advisory
- Certifications such as CDMP/DAMA, ISO 42001 lead implementer/auditor, or similar
