Software Developer — Build Your Own Project with an AI Coding Assistant

About The Role

What if you could get paid to work on the project you've been meaning to build — with a state-of-the-art AI coding assistant at your side, completely free of charge?

We're looking for software developers in Barcelona to bring their own projects and build them using an AI-powered coding assistant. You write real code on real projects you care about. We learn from your expert judgment on how the assistant performed. You keep full ownership of everything you build.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for developers who want to ship their own work — and get compensated for it.

• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Fully Remote
• Commitment: Flexible

• Bring a software project you personally own — a side project, a tool, an open-source library, or something you've been meaning to finish
• Build features, fix bugs, refactor code, write docs, or do whatever your project needs — using an AI coding assistant
• At each step, compare two versions of the assistant's response, choose the better one, and write a brief explanation of your reasoning
• Work in your own environment, on your own schedule, with your own tools

• A developer with a software project you personally own, stored in a git repository
• Comfortable working in the terminal and with git-based workflows
• Running macOS, Linux, or Windows with WSL2
• Able to write clear, honest evaluations — you'll explain your choices in a few sentences
• Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
• Open-source maintainers are especially welcome

• Software projects that you personally and solely own
• Open-source projects with an approved license
• If your project has other maintainers, mention it in your application — we'll confirm eligibility

• Work owned by an employer, client, university, company, or startup
• Projects under NDA
• AI model training or evaluation projects; ML infrastructure
• Security exploit tooling
• Projects that process other people's personal data

• Before starting, you'll sign short contributor terms and we'll approve your project
• Transcripts of your coding sessions are used to improve AI models and cannot be withdrawn after submission — this covers sessions only, not the rest of your codebase
• Your ratings and written feedback become part of the project's deliverables
• During sessions: no passwords, API keys, or other people's personal data — and you write your ratings yourself, without AI help

• Your project, your code — you keep full ownership of everything, including code the assistant writes for you
• Free AI tokens — your AI usage during sessions is fully covered, no subscription or API bill needed
• Paid to build what you'd build anyway — real compensation for real development work on your own project
• Fully remote and flexible — work from your own computer, on your own schedule
• Shape the future of AI-assisted coding — your expert judgment directly improves the next generation of developer tools
• Spots are limited — the first cohort is small and starting soon

About The Role

What if your deep command of Catalan and your leadership instincts could directly shape how AI learns to understand spoken language? We're looking for a Subject Matter Expert (SME) based in the Barcelona area to lead our Catalan audio transcription project. You'll oversee a team of language labelers and reviewers, provide linguistic guidance, and help ensure consistent, accurate, and high-quality output across the project.

This is a hands-on leadership role that rewards sound judgment, clear communication, and a sharp ear for language. You'll guide a team through the natural messiness of real-world audio while keeping quality standards high and the team aligned.

• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: Hours may vary based on project demands, team needs, and project volume

• Lead and support a team of Catalan-specific labelers and reviewers throughout the project
• Serve as the primary language and project subject matter expert, providing guidance on transcription, labeling, and language-specific questions
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality standards are maintained across all project work
• Monitor team performance and identify recurring quality issues, trends, or areas requiring additional guidance
• Conduct regular audits of labeling and reviewing work and provide actionable feedback
• Manage project-related communications and questions through Discord
• Host Office Hours to answer questions, clarify guidelines, and provide ongoing support to the labeling and reviewing teams
• Help identify ambiguities or gaps in project guidelines and escalate issues when necessary
• Participate in team meetings, calibration sessions, and project discussions
• Support alignment between labelers and reviewers to ensure consistent application of project guidelines
• Communicate important project updates, changes, and quality expectations to the assigned language team
• Collaborate with Project Operators and Project Managers to address quality, workflow, and performance concerns

• Native proficiency in Catalan, with deep familiarity with the spoken language as used in Catalonia and the broader Catalan-speaking regions
• Strong understanding of Catalan grammar, vocabulary, regional or dialectal variation, pronunciation, and natural spoken usage
• Experience with audio transcription, data labeling, linguistic annotation, quality assurance, or AI/ML data projects preferred
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify subtle linguistic, transcription, or labeling errors
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Catalan
• Experience providing feedback, coaching, or leading teams is preferred
• Comfortable working independently and managing multiple project priorities
• Familiarity with Discord or similar online collaboration platforms

• Awareness of dialectal variation across Catalan-speaking territories — Central Catalan, Valencian, Balearic, and others
• Background in linguistics, translation, education, or communications
• Prior experience with AI training data pipelines or annotation platforms

• Lead a team on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
• Fully remote and flexible work
• Shape how AI understands and processes spoken Catalan for millions of people
• Build specialized leadership and quality-assurance skills in AI data pipelines
• Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
