0Canonical
Embedded Linux Consultant - Japan
Canonical · València, ES
Teletrabajo . Python Linux C++ Cloud Coumputing IoT Go Office
Job Description
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. Our customers include the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1000+ colleagues in 70+ countries and very few office based roles. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.
The company is founder led, profitable and growing.
We are hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT to expand our reach in mission-critical industries such as Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, and Telco, as well as Consumer Electronics. We are looking for candidates who are accomplished Linux plumbers. If you are someone passionate about Linux, who knows the plumbing of the OS inside and out, who is proficient with distribution packaging, software design, system debugging, and bringing customer's ideas to life, then please keep on reading - this may be a uniquely exciting opportunity for you.
The server edition of Ubuntu is already very widely used in connected devices and industrial PC's. Our newer edition of Ubuntu for IoT, called Ubuntu Core, represents the state of the art in security and resilience for high end appliances and equipment. Our customers include global brands in consumer and industrial electronics as well as automotive and robotics. We continue to expand our range of offerings to bring our security, management and developer experience to the smallest Linux environments and devices. We recently added a real-time Linux capability and are working towards a range of certifications for these offerings. Together, this portfolio is Linux reinvented for optimal reliability, security, developer productivity and footprint.
This career opportunity requires a unique blend of skills. Successful candidates will know Linux well and be proficient coders and scripters. They will have experience of low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware and embedded software development methodologies. They also enjoy the pace of change and diversity of client engagements with driven and ambitious technology entrepreneurs. Competitive, business-focused technologists at heart, they are also dedicated team players that take pride in team and company wins.
We often say that our field engineers have 'the hardest job at Canonical' because customers can ask about any aspect of our solutions and products and expect a thoughtful, well-informed answer. We always want to do the best thing for our partners and customers, regardless of our company interests, and field engineers are the people we trust to ensure that is true.
Location: This role will be based remotely in Japan (preferably in Tokyo or Osaka area)
What your day will look like

- Professional written and spoken English in addition to the local language
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Result-oriented, ability to multi-task

- An humble learner and quick study
- Albeit many projects can be done remotely, the successful candidate will be willing to travel up to 30% of the time for customer meetings, company events, and conferences
- For positions in Japan and Korea, the successful candidates will also be able to speak and write the local language at a professional level.
- Experience with customer engagements a plus, but not a requirement

Checkly
Senior Product Engineer (remote, UTC-3 to UTC+3)
Checkly · Barcelona, ES
Teletrabajo . Agile Scrum TypeScript SaaS AWS Vue.js Go Office
(Fully remote, async-first, DevTool SaaS, 32-40h/week, time zones: UTC-3 to UTC+3)
Location: This is a FULLY remote role, but you must be within UTC-3 to UTC+3 to work with your team, peers, and internal customers. You do not have to be in the specific country or city shown in this listing, but please only apply if you are physically based within the UTC-3 to UTC+3 timezone.
Join Checkly as a Senior Product Engineer and empower developers to own and ensure application performance and reliability - from pull request to post-mortem!
Checkly is the leading synthetic monitoring platform helping Engineers at Linkedin, Citibank, Render, Vercel and over 1000 other companies to build reliable products by unifying testing, monitoring and observability. OpenTelemetry, Playwright, and Monitoring as Code are our foundation for unifying performance and reliability.
Our tech stack is Claude Code, Vue.js, TypeScript, Golang, Postgres, ClickHouse and AWS. We ship to prod all day, every day. We practice Agile (not scrum) and take pride in good documentation and good looking products.
We’re a remote-first startup that keeps things simple—low on meetings, high on productivity, and always shipping. If you love building cool things, working async, actually listening to and working with customers, and keeping it lean, you’ll fit right in!
In 2024, we raised $20M in Series B funding from Balderton, CRV, and Accel to take things to the next level.
What you'll do
Build and ship with AI as a force multiplier
You’ll actively use coding agents for full stack development. From exploring solutions and generating scaffolding, to refactoring, test generation, and debugging. At Checkly we push the limits of AI tools every day.
Identifying the right problems to solve
In a world where the cost of building software will be 0, you’ll focus on real-world developer pain: flaky checks, unclear failures, noisy alerts to help build reliable applications and services. You’ll favor pragmatic solutions that ship quickly, validate assumptions in production, and compound into long-term reliability improvements.
Engaging with users
You’ll talk directly to developers who are on-call, debugging incidents, or wiring Checkly into production pipelines. You will understand their workflows, pain points, and feedback. You use these conversations to validate ideas, course-correct early, and iterate on what you build. Customer calls and giving our users support on the weekly support rotation is an essential part of the job.
Own work end-to-end
From shaping the initial idea, through implementation and rollout, to watching how it behaves in production. You’ll take part in on-call and help support customers when things don’t work as expected.
What you should have
Experience Shipping Features With AI
You shipped features with a relevant tech stack from 0 to 100. You made good implementation decisions with successful outcomes. You shipped reliable projects with user impact.
Experience Building And Running Production Software
You’ve worked on systems that real users depend on. You’re familiar with the realities of operating software in production: edge cases, incidents, regressions, and the need for observability and follow-up.
You’re not surprised when things break but you help fix them.
The Basics, too
- Excellent spoken and written English skills
- Ability to be autonomous and self-motivated in a remote work environment, while you also enjoy getting to know your colleagues and helping others.
- Enjoy a FULLY remote role, within the UTC-3 to UTC+3 time zones.
- Transparent salary because your salary shouldn't be dictated by how good a negotiator you are. (more info below)
- Remote-first, flexible work hours, async-first (low meeting, high productivity) and transparent culture
- Become part of a fast-growing, international, and remote team where your work matters—your impact won’t get lost in layers of bureaucracy.
- Stock options
- 27 days of paid vacation + your local public holidays
- Paid sick leave & up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave
- $1,500 learning, visiting and wellbeing budget
- Co-working budget or home office setup
- Bi-annual company retreats
- Employee & contractor options
What we pay
Fair, competitive, and transparent pay is very important for us. Therefore we work with a standardized salary calculator that includes several factors such as seniority level as well as location.
For this role, the range is
- €88k - €107k for someone in a similar cost of market as UK, Germany etc.
- €79k - €97k for someone in a similar cost of market as Spain, Poland, Ukraine etc.
If this sounds interesting, please apply! Studies by several different sources have shown that on average men will apply for a job if they meet 60% of the application requirements. Women, non-binary people and POC will seek to match a much higher percentage of requirements before applying. If you're not sure you're the right fit, apply anyway and let us know what you bring to the table. We'd love to hear from you!
We're all about being transparent and setting clear expectations. That's why we've put together our hiring playbook and open-sourced our employee handbook. There you'll find a sneak peek of who we are, how we work and what you can expect in our hiring process.
