Amazon
Madrid, ES
S&OP Analyst II, EU Last Mile Planning
Amazon · Madrid, ES
. Python TSQL AWS
Description
This role can be based in Milan, Madrid, Barcelona.
Last Mile S&OP sits at the heart of Amazon's European operations: our forecasts and plans decide how millions of packages flow to every delivery station across Europe, and everything downstream — labour, transportation, delivery speed and cost — is built on the plan we set. Get it right and the whole network runs efficiently; that's the impact this team owns.
In this senior role you'll own a major part of that forecasting process — a broad set of countries or the core forecasting parameters behind the plan — setting the methodology, justifying the plan to senior leadership, and deep-diving the misses. Alongside the plan, you'll lead the projects that make it better: automating manual work, aligning the end-to-end process across teams, and raising the bar for how the whole team forecasts.
- Own a broad forecasting scope end to end and set the methodology others follow
- Report and defend the plan with senior leadership, and lead root-cause deep-dives when actuals miss
- Own a critical part of the weekly planning cadence, with direct, measurable impact across the European network
- Lead projects that improve the process — automation, end-to-end alignment and standardization — and mentor analysts on the team
Owning the forecast (the core of the role)
- Own the forecast for a broad scope — a group of countries or the core forecasting parameters — and be accountable for its accuracy end to end.
- Own a critical part of the team's weekly planning cadence: take in the latest demand signals, produce and the plan, and manage ambiguity and competing priorities.
- Report the plan to senior leadership, justify the assumptions and trade-offs, and be the recognised point of contact for your scope across the organisation.
- Lead root-cause deep-dives on forecast misses, quantify the impact, and drive corrective actions across teams.
- Mentor and develop more junior analysts.
- Lead automation projects that remove manual effort from the planning cycle and make the plan faster, more reliable and more optimized towards the organizational goals.
- Drive end-to-end alignment with operations, transportation and upstream planning teams so the full plan comes together consistently.
- Lead process-improvement and standardisation initiatives — redesign a forecasting method, close a structural accuracy gap, or make a process repeatable across countries — and quantify the business impact.
- Build and scale forecasting tools and models, and drive their adoption across the team. Work hands-on with data and code (Python, SQL, AWS) to build models, automation and analysis that support the plan.
You own the plan and the methodology for a broad scope, so your day mixes deep analysis with senior stakeholder leadership. You run your part of the weekly cadence and, when actuals miss, you lead the root-cause deep-dive, quantify the impact, and align partners on the fix. You present and defend your plan to senior leadership, and you spend time moving a project forward — an automation, an end-to-end alignment with upstream teams, or a process redesign that raises accuracy across countries. You review the work of an analyst you're mentoring. Your decisions shape network speed, cost and accuracy across Europe.
About The Team
We are the central planning team for Amazon's European delivery S&OP. Our mission is to plan the volume that flows across the European delivery network as accurately and cost-effectively as possible, and to build the tools and forecasts that make that plan better every cycle. We're a technically strong, data-driven group that values ownership, curiosity and inventiveness. Analysts are trusted with real scope early, present their plans to leadership, and are empowered with AI tools to support innovation, to unlock new capabilities within the team, and to drive simplification of our work to focus on the decisions that matter.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience working with databases and SQL
- Experience using Python scripting to process data for modeling
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering, statistics, computer science, business administration or a related field
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
- Experience communicating results to senior leadership, or experience delivering forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis, and data interpretation of results
- Experience working in supply chain, transportation, project management or management consulting
- Experience in data analytics or automation
- Experience communicating results to senior leadership, or experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (i.e. SQL, MS Power Query, Python)
- Experience driving improvement programs in the operations, engineering and support fields
Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. If you have a disability and need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application and hiring process, including support for the interview or onboarding process, please visit https://amazon.jobs/content/en/how-we-hire/accommodations for more information. Data platform ownership
- Design and evolve the Data Lakehouse (DLH) architecture used across our ML teams.
- Improve the reliability and structure of data ingestion, extraction, and transformation pipelines.
- Ensure datasets used for training and evaluation are consistent, reproducible, and well documented.
- Improve workflows for dataset versioning and reproducibility using tools such as DVC.
- Design solutions for managing multiple versions of datasets and annotations across experiments and models.
- Improve the ability for researchers to retrieve the correct dataset versions reliably.
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines in Python.
- Improve metadata management, dataset validation, and data quality monitoring.
- Optimize data workflows across AWS-based infrastructure.
- Work closely with ML researchers and ML engineers to understand their data needs.
- Support research workflows with reliable and efficient data access patterns.
- Help translate research requirements into robust platform capabilities.
- Implement practices for data quality, reproducibility, and traceability across the ML lifecycle.
