The University of Barcelona invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the area of photodynamic therapy and light-activated drug development, funded under the MSCA Individual Fellowship scheme. The successful candidate will join the “Light-activatable molecules for bioimaging and therapeutic applications” group, led by Dr. Vicente Marchán in the Organic Chemistry Section. The research will focus on the synthesis and biological evaluation of innovative light-activated drugs for bioimaging and therapeutic applications, with a particular emphasis on photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photopharmacology.

Key Responsibilities

– Synthesize novel light-activated drug candidates and conjugate them with tumor-targeting moieties such as peptides or antibodies.

– Conduct in vitro and in vivo biological evaluations of synthesized compounds.

– Collaborate with the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB) and utilize state-of-the-art research equipment.

Requirements

– PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, or a related discipline.

– Demonstrated experience in multi-step synthesis, photochemistry, and peptide synthesis.

– Strong motivation for translational research and an interest in the interface of chemistry and biology.

– Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and international environment.
