Plan International is seeking a National Director to lead the organization into its next phase of evolution and influence. This is a moment of transformation for the organization, which seeks to deepen its impact while reinforcing financial sustainability, operational excellence, and public trust. The National Director will shape the organization’s direction in Spain & Italy, aligning local ambitions with the federation’s global goals and ensuring that Plan’s mission continues to resonate with donors, partners, and the broader public.
The person in this role will have overall responsibility for leadership, representation, fundraising, and performance. They will inspire and guide a team of passionate professionals, maintain strong relationships with the Board of Trustees, and engage with Plan’s international leadership network. The position requires both a strategic mindset and hands-on management, balancing social purpose with financial and organizational discipline.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead and represent Plan International Spain & Italy with clarity of purpose and integrity, ensuring that the organization continues to deliver impact for children and equality for girls.
- Shape the organization’s medium-term direction, translating global ambitions into practical and measurable local objectives.
- Build and nurture strong partnerships with public institutions, corporate allies, foundations, and individual supporters.
- Strengthen and diversify fundraising channels, including individual giving, corporate alliances, and institutional funding.
- Maintain an agile, motivated, and collaborative team culture that promotes inclusion, innovation, and accountability.
- Ensure the highest standards of financial management, compliance, and governance, working closely with the Board of Trustees.
- Represent Plan Spain in the federation’s global forums, contributing to shared priorities and reinforcing Spain’s visibility within the international network.
- Act as a spokesperson in the media, public events, and advocacy spaces, positioning Plan as a respected and credible voice in the field of children’s rights and gender equality.
- Encourage learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement across all areas of the organization.

The ideal candidate brings a combination of leadership presence, management discipline, and passion for social impact. They are comfortable working across cultures and sectors, connecting easily with diverse stakeholders including public authorities, corporate partners, and civil society leaders. Specific attributes include:
- Proven experience leading teams in complex organizations with multiple funding streams and external stakeholders.
- Strong track record in fundraising or partnership development, with the ability to engage confidently with donors and institutional partners.
- Strategic judgment balanced by operational pragmatism; the ability to think broadly while acting decisively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a collaborative approach to leadership.
- Experience interacting with boards or governance bodies, and the ability to build productive, trusting relationships with them.
- Fluency in Spanish and English, with international experience or a demonstrated ability to work across cultural contexts.
- A personal belief in equality, inclusion, and the empowerment of children and girls, consistent with Plan’s mission and values.
The role calls for a leader who combines empathy with determination, who can inspire others through purpose while maintaining a clear sense of accountability. This person must feel comfortable representing Plan externally, driving conversations with credibility and vision, and serving as a visible advocate for children’s rights.
