Novicap is an end-to-end working capital solutions provider focused on enabling CFOs/Finance teams of SMEs to pay their suppliers and collect from their customers. This includes short-term credit (factoring, supply chain finance and loans) and payment automation solutions.

With offices in Barcelona and Madrid, we are currently looking for a Data Scientist who wants to join our team. You will enable high levels of automation across business decision processes, while maintaining rigorous control of credit risk and fraud levels, and providing actionable solutions to keep these metrics on target.

What will you do?

As mentioned, you will enable high levels of automation across business decision processes.

In order to achieve your mission, you will:

• Monitor and maintain target credit and fraud levels across all products.
• Continuously improve approval rates while staying within defined risk appetite.
• Increase automation across products, both in decision-making and process execution.
• Introduce and leverage alternative data sources to enable more innovative, customer-centric, and high-performing products.

In doing so, you will contribute to the achievement of Novicap’s long-term growth plans.

Who will you be working with?

You will report directly to the Head of Data and work closely with the rest of the Engineering team in Barcelona and the rest of Spain. We are a young and dynamic team that’s waiting for you with arms open!

You are the right fit if you have:

• Strong experience with packages such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib/seaborn, Plotly, statsmodels, etc.
• Hands-on experience implementing supervised, unsupervised, and probabilistic models.
• Experience translating models into real products or automated decision processes.
• Experience production models, including:
• Building pipelines for training, testing, and deployment
• Working with APIs, containers (Docker), cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Model monitoring and versioning
• Experience with version control (Git), code modularity, testing, documentation
• Strong SQL skills; ability to design, query, and transform data efficiently
• Familiarity with ETL pipelines, workflow tools (Airflow, Prefect), and structured/unstructured data
• The ability to design algorithms for business processes or automation efficiently
• An understanding of cloud services for data storage, compute, and model deployment

• Have a deep understanding of credit and fraud risk to identify critical business patterns and drivers.
• Are a self-starter who leads projects from ideation to delivery, defining problems and executing solutions with minimal guidance.
• Are obsessed with driving measurable ROI and customer value; thinks like a business owner rather than just a technical contributor.
• Have the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Are comfortable with ambiguity; capable of breaking down complex issues and proposing creative, non-standard solutions.
