What You will Do
Design and Development -
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to conceptualize and design UAV systems, including airframes, propulsion systems, avionics, and payloads
- Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed designs and specifications
- Conduct structural analysis, aerodynamic modelling, and system integration to optimize UAV performance
Hardware (HW) and Systems Architecture
- Define the HW architecture of UAV systems, including airframes, propulsion systems, avionics, sensors, and communication systems
- Develop system-level architecture to ensure seamless integration and interoperability of components
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to establish design requirements and specifications
System and Wiring Diagrams
- Create detailed system diagrams depicting the overall UAV architecture, subsystems, and interconnections
- Develop wiring diagrams illustrating the electrical connections, power distribution, and signal routing within the UAV system
- Ensure clarity and accuracy in diagrams to facilitate assembly, integration, and troubleshooting processes
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for UAV design, operation and safety
- Stay updated on evolving regulations and incorporate regulatory considerations into UAV designs and operations
Integration and Assembly Support
- Provide guidance and support to the assembly team during the integration of UAV components and subsystems
- Verify compliance with design specifications and standards during the assembly process
- Resolve technical issues related to component compatibility, wiring discrepancies, and system integration
Work Instruction Preparation
- Prepare detailed work instructions for assembly, integration, and testing procedures based on design specifications and test plans
- Document step-by-step procedures, tooling requirements, safety precautions, and quality checkpoints
- Ensure work instructions are clear, concise, and easily understandable by assembly technicians
Testing and Validation
- Develop test plans and procedures to validate UAV systems' performance, functionality, and safety
- Conduct system-level testing, including functional testing, integration testing, and environmental testing
- Analyse test results and provide recommendations for design improvements and optimizations
Flight Approval Documentation and Obtention
- Prepare comprehensive flight approval documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and stakeholders to obtain necessary flight clearances and permissions
- Ensure adherence to airspace regulations and operational restrictions during flight planning and execution
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed documentation of UAV designs, specifications, HW architecture, system diagrams, wiring diagrams, test plans and results
- Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation to communicate design concepts, progress, and findings to stakeholders
Collaborate with technical writers to create user manuals and technical guides for UAV systems.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and project managers, to achieve project goals
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to convey technical concepts, project status, and requirements
What You´ll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred
- Proven experience in UAV systems engineering, focusing on H.W. and systems architecture definition, preferably in the aerospace or Defence industry
- Proficiency in CAD software (Siemens NX) for 3D modeling and design and creating systems and wiring diagrams would be an asset
- Strong understanding of aerodynamics, propulsion systems, avionics, electrical systems, signal routing, and power distribution for UAV subsystems
- Experience with system integration, assembly, and testing processes
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for UAV design and operation
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with writing SORAs and past interaction with EASA is desired
- Demonstrable experience in real UAV flight testing would be an asset
- Demonstrable experience as a GCS Operator and External Pilot would be an asset
- Drone pilot licenses for the civilian (A1, A2, and A3) and military (DUO) segments would be an asset
- Fluent in English, ideally comfortable in Spanish as well

The successful applicant will join the team responsible for the aerodynamic development and optimisation of Airbus Defence & Space aircraft, having the opportunity to participate in diverse activities as external shape aerodynamic design, generation of complex and comprehensive aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads in steady and unsteady mode, safe separation analysis and participate in experimental wind tunnel test campaigns; all of them carried out in the multidisciplinary environment of Flight Physics and in collaboration with specialists of the other international partners involved.
Tasks & Accountabilities
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Design air vehicle external shapes and provide comprehensive aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads in steady and unsteady mode.
- Ensure that optimised aerodynamic solutions and data are delivered to customers on TCQ (time, cost, quality).
- Answer to aerodynamics program specification by developing & maintaining technologies, methods and tools and skills, knowledge and competencies relative to the Aerodynamics disciplines and all support activities or expertise required to meet the Programmes overall design and major components or systems integration needs throughout their life cycles.
- Contribute to the achievement of all vehicle projects aerodynamic and flight performance requirements within prescribed time, cost and quality objectives.

- Acquire and develop aerodynamic technologies in a manner consistent with the Company Strategy.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Educated to Master’s degree level in Aerospace Engineering (PhD level in Aerospace Engineering will be valuable).

IQU´s R&D offers well established experimentation tools in 5G and IoT. - Contribute software for cutting edge research projects related to 5G/6G Network and Service management, Zero Touch Networks, Data-Driven Communications using AI/ML, LLM and experimental validation.
- Be in contact and work with cutting-edge technology, validated at our in-house experimental 5G platforms.
- Work in challenging 5G/6G and IoT R&D projects and represent the company in project meetings and research initiatives.
- Represent IQU in exhibitions like Mobile World Congress Forum, IoT Solutions World Congress, Smart Cities Expo etc.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
Position_1. Cloud or Software Engineer
- Experience with Linux server operating systems
- Familiar with cloud-native (Docker and container networking or Kubernetes) principles (and optionally K8s)
- Preferred programming languages: Python
- Preferred experience with Git, Terraform, and Ansible
Position_2. Network Engineer
- A strong understanding of basic networking principles and networking protocols
- Can configure hardware and network equipment like routers, switches (optionally: 5G base stations)
- Preferred knowledge of 4G / 5G architecture
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Kubernetes orchestration
Hands-on experience with OpenStack and / or cloud deployment technologies
Experience with provisioning and managing Virtual Machines.
Hands on experience with monitoring tools like Grafana.
Expertise in application deployment using CI/CD pipelines

You will work in an open space office environment in the centre of Barcelona, which promotes creativity, innovation, and collaborative research among senior and early-stage researchers. You can also choose to work from home, but you may need to attend the office whenever is needed for meetings or for team work.
The rank and salary will be determined according to qualifications and work experience and will be varying between 25k and 42k.

What you will be doingSolar Design Analyst: Analyzing and designing cutting-edge PV systems, analysing electrical layouts, wiring diagrams, and specifications that guarantee peak performance and adhere to the highest safety standards.Site Scout & Strategist: Visiting sites to assess feasibility, determine optimal panel placement, and size the systems perfectly based on client energy needs and environmental factors.Fault Finder & Optimiser: Diving into system performance data (on-site and remote) to identify issues, troubleshoot faults, and implement corrective actions that maximize energy output and ensure reliable, long-term operation.Installation Co-Pilot: Working hand-in-hand with project managers and contractors, overseeing the installation process, and officially commissioning new solar and energy storage systems.Future-Proofing: Researching the newest trends and technologies in solar and storage (think BESS!), helping us continuously improve our designs and processes.Documentation Keeper: Preparing essential technical reports and keeping all system documentation flawless and up-to-date.What you need to bringEducation: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.Core Knowledge: Knowledge about the design, installation, and maintenance of commercial solar electric systems, including strong knowledge of industry standards.Software Skills: Knowledge about industry-standard design tools like PVsyst and PV Sol.Bonus Power-Up: Experience with energy storage systems (batteries, inverters) and hybrid setups, PRL course, works on heights course, elevator platform license and drone piloting license are a huge plus!
