Engineering Manager
ESW · Madrid, ES
. .Net Agile Azure Angular Kubernetes TDD Kafka Spark DDD Office
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team building innovative eCommerce experiences.
At ESW, we help some of the world’s best-loved brands deliver frictionless, cross-border shopping experiences. As a leading global DTC eCommerce platform, we provide technology and services that enable brands to localize checkout, logistics, compliance, and customer service in over 200 markets.
As a Engineering Manager, you will drive the design, development and technical ownership of a core element of our platform. You will collaborate with Architecture, Product, and your Engineering Leads to deliver and maintain a high volume secure system that continues to support rapid growth in scale and roadmap.
We are looking for a Engineering Manager with the highest level of technical and people management skills and a passion for building high-performing teams and driving technical excellence.
You should want to do things better, as we believe in continuous improvement of the development process, and you should have an opinion and contribute to improving our engineering practices. It would help if you cared about agile, continuous integration, deployment, DDD, TDD, unit testing and integration testing.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of full stack engineers.
- Work with and provide day to day leadership and support to an engineering team responsible for developing/delivering key features within its domain.
- Work with engineering and product leaders to drive close collaboration within the global teams.
- Drive execution to ensure that projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
- Collaborate across functions to support planning and road-map prioritization.
- Drive technical strategy, architecture, and execution for scalable, high-performance UI.
- Anticipate technical challenges and define strategy through long-term planning.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and backend teams to deliver seamless user experiences.
- Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Continuously strive to introduce improvements and innovations to the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering OR equivalent experience.
- Fluent English speaker: most of our team doesn't speak Spanish!
- Proven experience in engineering leadership and team management.
- Experience with agile project management, development methodologies and tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Detail-oriented with solid problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Nice-to-have, but not mandatory: experience with our tech stack (.NET, Azure, Angular, Kubernetes and Kafka).
Our purpose is simple: to create moments that matter between people and the brands they cherish. We enable brands to expand their global reach, facilitating simple and seamless ecommerce experiences for consumers worldwide. Through our integration solutions, we deliver a complete international checkout experience, including local duties, taxes, fulfilment, delivery management, and global returns and payment processing capabilities.
Guided by our values—Own It, Champion Simplicity, Win as One, and Debate then Commit—we strive to foster innovation, accountability, and teamwork, creating solutions that inspire trust and drive impactful results.
What's on offer?
- Direct hire with a product company: This isn’t consulting or outsourcing. Shape the future of our product with ownership, impact, and long-term vision.
- Competitive salary and benefits: Your financial well being is important to us. Join ESW and experience the satisfaction of being rewarded for your hard work, dedication and commitment.
- Professional and personal development: Find your spark and leave your mark. We will ensure your talent is nurtured and cultivated for growth and success throughout your career with ESW.
- International environment: Work with people from over 30 different cultures and get the chance to use English daily.
- Hybrid working: Enjoy the best of both worlds with 2–3 days in our office near Atocha, and 2–3 days working from the comfort of your home
- Diversity, Belonging & Inclusion: When we win, we win together. You'll be part of a culture that values every individual for who they are, fostering an environment where uniqueness is encouraged.
If you require any reasonable accommodations or adjustments throughout the hiring process, please let us know. We are dedicated to ensuring equal access and opportunity for all candidates.
Meetup
Graduate software engineer
Meetup · València, ES
Teletrabajo . Python Docker Kubernetes Microservices REST gRPC Office
Meetup is a community-building platform that millions of people use to discover events, meet others who share their interests, and cultivate meaningful real-world connections. Now part of Bending Spoons, it plays a key role in a portfolio of outstanding digital businesses united by a shared focus on innovation and operational excellence. By applying through the Meetup brand, you’ll be stepping into the wider Bending Spoons team. You may work directly on Meetup or contribute to one of our other leading products. Either way, you’ll be part of a high-performing, collaborative environment where you can make a real impact.
At Bending Spoons, we’re striving to build one of the all-time great companies. A company that serves a huge number of customers. A company where team members grow to their full potential. A company that functions at unparalleled levels of effectiveness and efficiency. A company that creates value for shareowners at an extraordinary rate. And a company that does so while adhering to high ethical standards.
To achieve this objective, we execute the following strategy: We acquire a digital business with untapped potential and make it as successful as we can by leveraging our platform—which comprises our expertise, technologies, data, brand, talents, and company culture. Then, we invest the proceeds into making our platform more powerful, and into acquiring new businesses. Thus, our strategy sees us combine an investor’s attention to capital allocation with the hands-on approach of an operator.
For a talented, driven, and collaborative individual, working at Bending Spoons is an opportunity to learn, make an impact, and progress their career at an exceptionally high rate. That’s our promise to such a candidate.
A few examples of your responsibilities
- Master your toolkit. By working across diverse tech stacks, you’ll refine your ability to choose the right tools for every challenge. From monolithic to microservices architectures, gRPC to REST APIs, Kubernetes to Docker, Python to Rust—you’ll show that true expertise isn’t about using the trendiest technologies, but about understanding their purpose to unleash their full potential.
- Build stuff that matters. Regardless of your seniority, you’ll enjoy plenty of autonomy and take full ownership of your work, from ideation to execution. You’ll have the unique opportunity to build software from the ground up and witness firsthand how your code evolves into a product used at scale.
- Simplify relentlessly. Is every component essential? Do we need this process? As a Bending Spoons engineer, your mission is to turn complexity into simplicity. Whether optimizing CI/CD pipelines, writing maintainable code, or crafting minimalist architectures, your drive to simplify will power scalable, future-proof solutions.
- Reasoning ability. Given the necessary knowledge, you can solve complex problems. You think from first principles, and structure your ideas sharply. You resist the influence of biases. You identify and take care of the details that matter.
- Drive. You’re extremely ambitious in everything you do—and your initiative, effort, and tenacity match the intensity of your ambition. You feel deeply responsible for your work. You hold yourself to a high—and rising—bar.
- Team spirit. You give generously and without the expectation of receiving in return. You support the best idea, not your idea. You're always happy to get your hands dirty to help your team. You’re reliable, honest, and transparent.
- Proficiency in English. You read, write, and speak proficiently in English.
- Incredibly talented, entrepreneurial teams. You’ll work in small, result-oriented, autonomous teams alongside some of the brightest people in your field.
- An exceptional opportunity for growth. We go to great lengths to hire individuals of outstanding potential—then, our priority is to put them in the ideal position to thrive. Spooners in their 20s lead products worth hundreds of millions of dollars. And if you’ve got what it takes, you’ll soon be playing an essential role in major projects, too.
- Competitive pay and access to equity in the company. Typically, we offer individuals at the start of their career an annual salary of £85,797 in London and €66,065 elsewhere in Europe. For a candidate that we assess as possessing considerable relevant experience, the salary on offer tends to be between £112,189 and £250,512 in London, and €107,837 and €188,848 elsewhere in Europe. Compensation varies by location and expected impact, and grows rapidly as you gain experience and translate it into greater contributions. For individuals who demonstrate exceptional capability, we may offer compensation that extends beyond the usual ranges to reflect their higher expected impact. If you're offered a permanent contract, you'll also be able receive some of your pay in company equity at a discounted price, thus participating in the value creation we achieve together. If relocating to Italy, you may enjoy a 50% tax cut.
- All. These. Benefits. Flexible hours, remote working, unlimited backing for learning and training, top-of-the-market health insurance, a rich relocation package, generous parental support, and a yearly retreat to a stunning location. We help each Spooner set up the conditions to do their best work.
Permanent or fixed-term. Full-time.
Location
Milan (Italy), London (UK), Madrid (Spain), Warsaw (Poland) or remote in selected countries.
The selection process
If you pass our screening, we’ll ask you to take on a few tests designed to assess how you approach unfamiliar problems. They’re challenging and may take several hours to complete. If you’re successful with those, we’ll invite you to a series of interviews.
We set the bar high and won't extend an offer until we're convinced we've found the right candidate. This is why a job may stay open for months or be reposted several times.
Studies suggest that women tend not to apply for a job if their CV isn’t a perfect fit. Here, talent takes precedence over experience. So if you like the role and think you could be awesome at it in time, go ahead and apply.
Bending Spoons is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. We consider for employment any applicant and provide reasonable accommodations for an individual with disabilities—just let us know through this form.
Before you apply
If you’ve applied before but didn't receive an offer, we recommend waiting at least one year before applying again.
Bending Spoons is a demanding environment. We’re extremely ambitious and we hold ourselves—and one another—to a high standard. While this tends to lead to extraordinary learning, achievement, and career growth, it also requires significant commitment.
To help you ramp up quickly and set yourself up for success, we recommend spending your first few months working from our Milan office, regardless of your long-term work location. It’s the best way to rapidly absorb our company culture and build trust with your new teammates. We’ll support you with generous travel and accommodation assistance. After that, you’re welcome to work from our offices in Milan or London, or remotely from approved countries—depending on what we agree at the offer stage.
If the role speaks to you and you’re excited to give your best, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now—we can’t wait to meet you.
