The Plasma and Space Propulsion Team (EP2 Lab) at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid invites applications for two fully funded PhD positions as part of the EIC ALBATOR project. These positions offer the opportunity to engage in advanced research in plasma propulsion, with a focus on numerical simulation and space debris mitigation.

Available PhD Positions

– ALBATOR-D1: Numerical simulation of ECR plasma thruster discharges, aimed at understanding the underlying physics and optimizing plasma thruster design and operation.

– ALBATOR-D2: Numerical simulation of plasma thruster plumes interacting with bodies, supporting the development of the “ion beam shepherd” concept for space debris removal.

Requirements

– MSc degree (with a total of 300 ECTS from BSc and MSc studies)

– Background in Aerospace Engineering, Plasma Physics, Applied Mathematics, Scientific Computing, or related fields

– Experience in design or laboratory work is advantageous

– Strong academic record, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

– Proficiency in English
