Salary Range The Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB) offers nine programmes of study and learning pathways, forming a comprehensive educational portfolio.

The IAB aims to provide a stimulating, industry-integrated environment that fosters communication, collaboration, and innovation among a diverse community of learners within various creative and cultural contexts.

Our academic faculty work closely with support staff in immersive, flexible, and work-based settings.

The IAB is home to over 100 staff and 450 learners specialising in Acting, Dance, Commercial Dance, and Musical Theatre.

The Acting Department has been an integral part of the IAB for over a decade and is one of the EU's leading providers of tertiary, degree-based education in acting.

Dedicated to excellence in actor training, the department aims to develop fully integrated performers capable of thriving in the global performing arts industry.

Purpose of the Role The Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB) seeks a dedicated and experienced Acting Lecturer to make a significant contribution to all its Acting programmes.

This role requires a dynamic individual with expertise and experience in actor training for stage and screen with additional leadership skills.

Candidate Profile The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

Proven experience in higher education teaching, with a specific focus on actor training.Recognised professional standing in the acting industry.Leadership and organisational skills, with the ability and experience to lead year groups, projects, and modules.A commitment to innovation in teaching and the ability to integrate current industry practices into the curriculum.Excellent communication skills and experience in mentoring students and providing pastoral care.Our Commitment to Equality The IAB is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment.

Selection Criteria Education /Qualifications Postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional recognition/attainment in the relevant sector.Experience Extensive experience in teaching acting and directing in house productions within a higher education sector relevant to the programme area.Extensive knowledge and experience of teaching Stanislavski-inspired acting technique at Conservatoire Level to first year students.Additional knowledge of pedagogy and experience leading projects in additional specific areas, such as: Heightened Text; Contemporary Drama; Devising Theatre; etc.Versatile and creative educator, with experience of teaching and/or examining at a range of levels and/or in a range of environments within the Higher Education sector.Experience creating and leading modules, along with managing assessments so that they meet the required Learning Outcomes.Knowledge and Understanding Knowledge of standard processes and expectations of the higher education sector, including matters relating to learning and teaching, assessment, quality assurance and the facilitation of student-centred learning.Skills and Attributes Ability to plan and deliver coherent and appropriate modules of learning at a range of levels (undergraduate and postgraduate), including relevant formative and summative assessment activities.Excellent communication skills (written and oral), including ability to operate as part of a team through consultation, co-operation and evidencing mutual professional respect.Ability to utilise a range of IT systems/resources confidently and to good effect in relation to communication and in support of pedagogy.Personal Qualities Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships at all levels and to inspire and motivate students.Self-motivated, systematic and flexible worker, able to use time efficiently, meet priorities and deadlines and act on their own initiative when necessary.Key Responsibilities Leadership Module Leadership - The successful and efficient development and delivery of specialist modules across full-time Foundation / BA (Hons) / MA programmes.To support the Programme Leaders to deliver, assess, and continuously improve the programmes to meet artistic, academic, and professional standards.Teaching and Learning Deliver innovative, studio-based practical training, reflecting the diverse demands on the professional actor.Contribute to teaching across modules and provide individual guidance and mentorship to students.Student Recruitment and Support To partake in Audition activities and represent the Acting programmes at Open Days, Audition events, Masterclasses for recruitment purposes, where required.Support students in their academic and professional development, providing guidance on careers, assessments, and personal growth.Quality Assurance and Evaluation As module leader, monitor and maintain the quality of teaching materials, assessments, and Classlife resources, within modules.Contribute to all QA and evaluation activities, in particular end of year Module evaluations.Professional and Administrative Responsibilities Engage in research and professional development to maintain expertise and ensure the programme's relevance and quality.Build and maintain professional networks to enhance student opportunities and programme reputation.Seniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeFull-timeJob functionEducation and TrainingIndustriesPerforming Arts
